Noble Amps Preamp

Noble (and bass!) sound Nice! What strings do you have on that?

They are actually pretty bright. That particular bass is super dark sounding and the high end sort of gets subdued in a mix unless I use a B7K or something to get the highs a little more presence. It had such a super strong mid range and low end, but unless I boost them the highs just don't really cut through.

I may have had the treble rolled back as well, or EQed some highs out, I'll check and see if I can get you a dry track to listen to because I remember fighting g some string noise when mixing that.

Thanks, but no need to spend more time on it. It sits nicely in the mix as you've mixed it for demo purposes, and I really like the tone -- so was just wondering how much was strings vs bass vs the Noble pre (I know: all of the above!).

So I posted this picture in another thread but thought I would share it here too. This was my first outing with the Noble. I had it a few weeks at home and while I thought it sounded good running into the effects return of my amp while practicing, I wasn't as totally mind blown as I thought I would be.

Then.......

I took it to my gig Sunday Night which is at a large church (ampless with in-ears) and OH MY was my mind definitely blown. Been through a BUNCH of preamps / di's and NEVER sounded like that before

I've had other DI's sound good in the lower register but never had anything sound this thick but still articulate in the upper register.

While I was waiting for the opportunity to use the Noble live, I ran across a good deal on another preamp di that I had been wanting to try and it just came in.... we'll see how it compares but it's got a pretty big task ahead of itself right now.

That's the thing - people will run it through an amp and not notice a huge difference. But you really notice when you run it through IEMs or listen through monitoring headphones. That is where the key details stand out. Those are usually the details that give you a great tone in the mix as well.

Are you guys of the opinion that jacking up the EQ on these babies makes the tubes "work more" and therefore add harmonic richness to it? I have one and want it to sound tubey, but sometimes I wonder if sending my FOH a flat signal is still better than say the Lefebvre setting (low cut, bass boost 100%). Just curious to hear some second opinions.

Not really. I think it just does what it's marked as (bass/treble) FWIW I usually keep mine flat unless I need some sweeter highs but even then it's used very sparingly.

Yes. Cranking the bass right up gets more breakup and just boosting bass can can get more breakup

I am considering using a Noble preamp with my Crest CA9 power amp. Anyone use this kind of rig? Noble into big iron power on top of a 410? Considerations?

I am assuming the output of the Noble will pair well with input of CA9???
