Noble Amps Preamp

Mercy yes!! So nice to actually hear what's going on with the bass, instead of an inarticulate low end drone. I can't stand that, and so many worship bands end up with that sound for "bass". This is fantastic! Makes me really miss my Noble.
Where is this, if I may ask?
Church of the King in Mandeville, Louisiana (near New Orleans). This video is from the main campus but we have satellite campuses in Metairie, LA and Biloxi, MS and will open up a campus in New Orleans and Kenner, LA later this year.

Did a tracking session this past Saturday with my regular gig, Creek Don't Rise.
Real simple signal chain: my ash/morado Sadowsky WL5 into the Noble, out to the DAW. No amp sim, just an 1176 plug for a bit of compression. And everybody loved it!

Here's me and my drummer friend doing a cover of Royal Blood's out of the black. Bass signal going through the Noble and the "guitar" through an atomic Ampli Fire in stereo to the sides. I've never mixed anything in my life, but I think it turned out OK all things considered. What do you think?

I really like the Metro series so the Noble is able to go vertically for more pedal space. This is a Metro 20

Having sprung for the Metro, Nano and Nano+ I think the small Pedaltrain boards are overbuilt and a lot of money for what they are. I'm getting ready to experiment making ultra thin boards out of 2.9mm Dibond aluminum composite sheet. Nice thing about the Noble's 9v power supply is you don't need to try to hide a PSU under the board so it can be as thin and low to the ground as you can make it.
I've built the last 4 or 5 board iterations I've used. This time I bought a Temple Audio, but ended up using it plus one of the ones I built. I do a lot of smaller gigs that don't need most all my pedals, so I hated to carry a bigger board than necessary.
I have one that has my Noble / Cali76 / Line6 G50 / Tuner and Thumpinator on the board all wired up (this is one of the boards I built). Those are my "always used" pedals. Then on the Temple, I have the pedals I use less frequently. All I have to do to combine is position the board on top, drop it in, and move a couple cables.
The Noble powers all the stuff on the top level (basics board), except when I am using the full setup, when I power it with 18v from a Fuel Tank Chameleon (under the Temple, to get the TX mode). So basically I swap an output cable and one power cable (both pre-wired on the Temple) and just plug them into the second layer, and boom.
I carry the "essentials" board in a $19 aluminum case with plenty of padding ( I cut the acrylic to fit the case snugly) . It works really well and is versatile.
I built the essentials board from 1/4" acrylic. Just drilled out some holes for eye bolts on the front (used for legs) and regular counter-sunk bolts on the back. They have rubber stoppers screwed on the bottom. Adjustable height. They are great for carrying handles as well. On the Temple, I just made a couple adapters out of a couple small pieces of aluminum from old wireless mic mounts by lining them up and drilling holes in the end. The bolt legs on the acrylic board drop right into the holes but only far enough to keep the board from moving around, so it stays at the right angle (same as Temple).
I used a strip of RF-remote-controlled LEDs (from amazon) and gaff tape to affix the strip to the back edge of the acrylic board, and power it with the Noble. Its completely concealed, and it only makes the edges of the acrylic board glow, without being annoying or to cheesy (I'm not really a flashy player, did this for a new project I am a part of). The remote is great and doesn't need line of sight, can change colors, music mode, fade, etc.
Best of both worlds. And surprisingly, the whole setup is not heavy.
Well, I put velcro on the new Noble, which for me is pretty much putting a ring on it, so that is a good sign! As soon as you feel the build quality, the sweep of the knobs, and hear the tone, you know where all your money went. Nice work Mr Roan. It's a beauty.
Bass sounds awesome. I’ve been really happy with my OCSD giving more “life” to my IEM/DI sound but this video is intriguing. I know a few people who swear by them. They are a little big and expensive which is why I went OCSD but I have the itch again to change something up and I like my bass so...
Yeah, the expensive part is what made me hold off for a while. I finally decided to pull the trigger on a nice used one which had one of the six power outs as a 12v (to drive my compressor). My reasoning was if I didn't love it, I could sell it for about what I paid for it and be okay, no worries. Well, I won't be putting it up on the boards for the foreseeable future as it really does a lot and the weight of my board went down (dropped a ToneHammer DI and Voodoo power supply).
Just picked up a used Noble (been GASing for one for over a year, this was staring me in the face)...
I may be late the party - but, OMG does this sound incredible!!
I tried it running through the effects return on my B|Amp, through 2 Bergantino HD112, my usual live rig first.
Using my pbass with flats, I noted right away why the Pbass is the "home bass" of the Noble. Sounded very similar tone to what Tim LeFebvre and Sean Hurley were getting. Rich, buttery, growly, deep. Yes--like Donny Hathaway Live, lol.
Next, I cycled through my Jazz bass, and Noble brought out that Jazz "sweetness" in the middle register... The Stingray was next and also sounded full with more detail and less clank than usual for a Ray... The Sadowsky vintage J4 followed and was musical beyond belief. The instrument felt very organic in my hands and actually sang a little... Finally, I used my ken smith bsr6 - and damn I've neverd that level of detail in my rig with that bass. Rich - everything sounded rich and musical. Highest notes sang!
So -- I then recorded the P and the J -- and I would say the Noble-ization of those basses' tone was even more apparent.
Settings I used were (1) flat, (2) TLF bass cut, but bass knob all way up, and (3) both tone knobs at around 9-10:00...

I wanted to record a scratch guitar part for one of the things I had just recorded. Rather than switch on my Fender Princeton Reverb, set up mics, etc., I simply plugged my Strat into the Noble (with both knobs at around 9:30)... Holy shishkebob - great guitar tone! (The builder of this thing MUSTVE been a guitarist... Lol)
So -- in reading many of the archived posts in this 90 page thread, a lot of players were using compressors or clean boosts to make the Noble's tubes GROWL.. Well, I said "tubes? Why not try my early '80's TS808?? Let's see what this little box can REALLY do!" So I set it up, and DAMN instant Ts808-Fender amp tone! Absolutely breathtaking! The guitar didn't sound shrill or slightly brittle or loss of girth in the upper register as when I usually plug into other DI boxes or preamps.. This was just perfect. As with the basses, no loss of girth to the notes in the upper register - it sounded amazing.

My dream is to get a Noble to pair with my B|Amp too, then out to an HDN212. But I'm having GAS for a bass at the moment, so this dream is on hold.

Argh I’m so torn! I was about to pull the trigger on one of these. Then the new Bergantino Forte HP came out. I currently have the regular Forte.
Have you tried it directly into your B|amp? Just curious how direct vs effects return sounds.
No - I've only tried through the Effects Return. I've used the Aguilar db900 tube DI through the direct, and it sounds great. But since the Noble is a true preamp, I don't want it blended with any other preamp, even one as excellent as the B|Amp's.
