Noises that bother you.

In no particular order:

- Feedback on stage
- Logging soil samples next to one of these

- the Sharp copier in my office :bored:

Strangely, in my 35 years in the business I've never been around a geoprobe rig and, from the sound of it, that's a good thing. I have been around just about every other type of drill rig, including the ones that enable you to go down the hole - sometimes over 100 feet deep. None of that really bugged me.

Crying babies on airplanes by a landslide, but also in restaurants.

Then leaf blowers, weedwackers, & lawnmowers.

Harleys that blow by me on the highway.

My cat's sandpaper tongue licking plastic bags when she's hungry (i heard they're somehow made using animal fat, but haven't fact checked that.)

My neighbors down the road had an automatic backup generator installed last year, so when we have a power outage in the winter, there is a beautiful moment of peaceful silence and then "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHHH" the generator kicks in, echoing like a chainsaw across the fresh fallen snow, ensuring that their Christmas lights never go out all night.

A smoke alarm waking me up at three AM.

The hiss of random air escaping from one of my tires.

A sharp intake of breath, followed by a breathless "oooh" from wifey as we walk through a shopping mall.

The sound of my starter turning over not quickly followed by my engine running.

A rattlesnake rattle while wading through waist high weeds.

The buzz of a mosquito.
