NOLA jazz fest 2024 Lineup

Yeah they have to put asses in seats and drinks, food, and merch in the hands of those asses. But much the same can be said about bluegrass festivals, chamber music festivals, hell even Shakespeare festivals. You wouldn’t expect to see CATS or PHANTOM at a Shakespeare festival, so why should the Foo Fighters be at a JAZZ festival?
The other thing is - if that’s your roster, what kind of revenue do you have to generate to PAY all those folks? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to put on an actual jazz festival and live with lower attendance and not have to shell out as much money?

China Star here has really good sushi. And only stays with you for half an hour, so there's time to go back for more! haha!
And of course they are rolling out Irma Thomas again, she hasnt put out any music since the 60's !

But this is a god awful "jazz" lineup. The whole lineup is pure irony. Blues acts I think are fine, they are from and connect to a similar time period of jazz, while two different worlds of music they for sure can connect.
I get that they gotta get people to come but at this point I agree they are better off just actually attracting jazz fans. I mean there are jazz acts going on at the event but I feel if I had the money and time to go to this show as a jazz fan I wouldn't even bother, I know most of the people are gonna be Foo Fighters and Stones fans, rock and roll party types, why do I want to go to that? I mean it, better off going to Blue Note.

"Jazz" in the 2024 NOLA context seems to have connotation of "miscellaneous." As in, "this, that, and all the other jazz."

I know it won’t happen, but it’d be pretty cool if all the rock/pop acts did their NJF sets as either standards & deepcuts of jazz in their own typical modern style or their songs re-tooled with DB, piano, and horns to sound like one of the classic jazz sub genres.
It's nothing. Soulfly played as metal band at some jazz festival in Europe.
Also, in my country, a pretty big jazz festival have alot of notjazz musicians.

Miles dreamed of bringing jazz to the populous in large, rock-scale concerts and festivals. Instead, large festivals bring name-only jazz to its rock concert promotions.

Is that recent? I thought Sonny Rollins finally retired... he's like 95 or something. But if he didn't, that's even better.
