Not sure what you mean by "gainy"....if it's the voltage gain w/all freq.pots at 0 position, then yes,I can confirm that the gain is 1 or "unity gain".Thus said,it means that the output buffer stage delivers a typical 0,95...0,97 % of the input signal. In other words, with all tones at the central position, shifting between passive and active mode does not affect the volume. If ,by "gainy",you meant how many dB's are Noll preamps capable of when you begin turning clockwise the pots, all Noll variants do the same,max.+/-15dB,6dB/octave tone correction. How gainy are Nolls? With which more popular preamp you would compare Nolls, guys?
U-retro was also an option but I heard a lot of people said that this preamp realy have a colour of it own and it colours the bass sound even when setting flat.
Sorry to resurrect.
I just got a TCM 4XM to put in my Corvette Standard. The input jack seems WAY to small. Am I doing something incorrect?
Well, the old jack is like three inches long. The new one is one inch at most. It does'nt fit in the hole...or it doesn't seem to. I am certainly not a guitar tech, but it seems way to small.
The old one is very old...the bass was built in 98...21 years ago. Yikes, that means I'm, VERY old. I'm thinking I'm going to have to enlarge the whole in the bass.
