Non-Class D Amps Under 25 Pounds

Switch Mode Power Supply. The old big transformer power supplies are called "line frequency" power supplies.
Not completely sure about the power amp topology, but my recently aquired peavey tour 700 ( bought used) almost certainly is class AB and traditional transformer based power supply. It's no longer in production, but at 22 lbs more or less it's a bargain. Inexpensive, reliable, solid, and good sounding. I even like it a lot more than the thunderfunk that i gigged in the last 4 years.
Ashdown ABM500 is right at 25 pounds and they are a super easy schlep due to great handle placement.
Eden WT-550 is like 22 pounds and a helluva lot of power and will run at 2ohms all day long.

SWR. I had a redfaced 350 years ago that was surely under 20 pounds, and it sounded nice. Others that come to mind are the Thunderfunk predecessors from AMP or Gibson.

Eden WT-550 is even lighter than that, I believe - 20# or so.
The older WT-400 (one of my favorite heads of all time) is even lighter at somewhere between 13 and 14#. Makes my 26# Ampeg SVT3 Pro feel like a bag of sand.
Nothing against class D but I've yet to find one that gives me the tone that my led sleds have. I'll take a GK 700rb/800rb, Mesa M6 or Walkabout over any microamp on the market.

Guess it good that some people like the heavy weight of non-class-d amps. Somebody has to buy the old amps as the market trends towards more modern solutions.
Hard to believe, I know ... As an early adopter of micro heads, neo speakers, and emulation pedals (VT Bass) I can assure you that none of them sound like my nearly 50 year old ultimate lead sled, and cabinet. Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Monkey, those are just the facts.
Possibly, but no one in your audience is going to know the difference. Most people don't even know what a bass sounds like.

I think it's a little heavier than 25 lbs, but still very lightweight and compact, and it's the best transistor amp (with tube preamp) I've ever heard and used: The Eden WT-550.

Some of us like the sound and feel, not the weight. If I can find a 3 lbs amp with the authority and presence I look at I have no problem with lightweight.
2) @Munjibunga: maybe the audience cannot distinguish between a guitar and a bass, but I do, WE do. This is the reason because a place like talkbass exists. If you had the unique goal of pleasing the audience at gigs, well, go plug direct into the supplied mixer and PA or the crappy 20 watts combo onstage and be happy. But I guess it's quite different from reality, isn't it?
Just for being plain simple: I care about my tone and satisfaction, and the audience...F*** the audience! (not quite as extreme...but you get the idea)

If we only cared about the kind of stuff an audience noticed this would be talkwardrobe.com, not talkbass.com.
Re the last few posts, I am starting to wonder if the thing about the non-Class D amps that keeps people dragging them around is the way they respond, the way they feel, the way they impact our playing--rather than the sound.
