So there's a dirty little secret about the classic look....

Looking at this makeover of an Ibanez (I'll try to post the thread when I find it) there seems to be one big component that does a lot of heavy lifting for a classic look...

I actually played that very bass at the Instrumental Music in Thousand Oaks. It was alright. I couldn't figure out if it was MIK. Not that where it's made matters too much to me, but for the amount of money they're asking, it makes me wonder.

I know a guitarist who has a Duesenberg guitar - it's nice and he likes it. I guess that's all that matters.

Haha Rics have never done a thing for me, sonically or visually, although I do like their inexplicably daring and strange dual output, in concept.. What a sign of the times though, If you asked me if I had seen the new Fodera add in playboy, I wouldn't even know what you meant

That's true. But for $1800 used, I would just want to know if was German-made boutique instruments like they're strongly implying or if they're made by Cort. If they were say, $500 or even $800, I'd be a little less suspicious.

If this is what you are referring to (Guild X-702 bass) - w/o the hs it wouldn't be the same...

Again agreed, although I'm not sure what would look appropriate!! Either a fairly non-descript 2+2 headstock, or maybe some sort of "statement" like the Status Buzzard?

Well, it'll likely be a 5 string.
So 2x3 , maybe a variant of the pilot headstock .
