The Diamanda Galas dig on the others, isn't really without merit. Jason Bonham, who'd come from outside in to the rehearsal in 2007 reunion, had this to say:

So no, JPJ shouldn't be mentioned in this thread at all, it's totally OT. Or John Baldwin as his real name is. JPJ is a stage name taken from an old maritime admiral, or military officer, and an aricraft carrier, or war vessel of some sorts. Beats me why he took that name...

Interesting anecdote.
I agree JPJ doesn't fit the bill for this thread. A few other names don't either. I'm thinking especially of Jack Cassady, who was also mentioned earlier.
Actually, if I had to make a category in which to fit both JPJ and Cassady, it would be "Bassists who were the most accomplished musician in their own band." And I'd add Chris Squire in there.

I just wanna say thanks to everyone who posted links in this thread.
I start these threads really because I have a liking to sharing music with other humans.
But it takes other bassists to understand some of my tastes.
