I love your guitar. To me, the building of an archtop is the crown jewel of luthiery.

As an artisan, the ultimate edification is when others appreciate my work.
I agree...I feel the archtop is in the same class as the orchestral instruments, violin/cello/etc, build wise.
I've been wanting an archtop for some time, plus I was needing a new challenge in the shop & felt this might fill the bill.
Was I ever right on the challenge part of it...I studied Benedetto's book & 9 1/2 hr. d.v.d. set for several months before beginning the build, & it still required all of my focus, on-going, to bring it together in a satisfactory manner.
Yes, Picasso seems to have had insights into areas beyond color & perspective...
The archtops have a pickup design that has a side tab which allows the pickup to be suspended from the finger rest beside the neck.
Benedetto markets archtop pickups as do a couple of other manufacturers.
However, I haven't really done any shopping for one yet as my first concern was to build a guitar with a great neck & acoustic properties...good tonal qualities with balanced voicing and good projection.
Well it's been kind of a slow process on this.
I've been swamped with requests for outside work & work on this when I get a chance.
Still need to get the finger rest, truss rod cover & some electronics installed.
But I'm playing it every day...what a rush!
Finally found a case for it, so now I feel comfortable taking it places with me.
The spruce didn't take the stain as evenly as I thought it would, so there are some color variations that I had no control over.
But, all in all, I feel real good about it for a first acoustic build.
It's got a great playing neck, good sound projection & a nicely balanced tone from bass to treble
