Not everyone is on FaceBook......

Facebook sucks. Showing up to gigs on time and playing well develops a career, not exposure on a social media site. FWIW I have an artist page and after three months of no logging in facebook decided I needed to send them a copy of a government issued ID. I understand it can be useful for exposure, but it will never hold a candle to actively participating in a scene in the flesh.

You used a fake name, huh? Somebody reported it.

..... and from what I read and hear they are not a "hip" as they used to be. Why bring that up here?

Because I'm a guy who shops bass gear. And I'm a guy who will actually look up your band if you mention it here and possibly check out some of you music. And I am unable to see your content, or buy your products, if you are only on Facebook!

I am not "old school" per say. Honestly, I just don't want the drama of social media. I did the MySpace thing and it sucked. People getting passed if you didn't respond to everything they said about you or posted on your page. Women flirting with me although I was married. Just not my thing. I was glad to see it fade away and had no interest in Facebook.

How much can a decent Web site really cost? I mean, I can build one and I'm not exactly a computer nerd. There are hosting and building site everywhere.

There are bound to me lots of us....and not just the older "get off my lawn" crowd. With so little money and effort needed to get a web site up, why cut off such a larger part of your potential market?

This is not a plug, rather an example of what I am talking about. This is a personal friend I fill in with from time to time when she comes this way. She built this Web site and has zero experience with such things. You can buy stuff through it, find her schedule (when she updates it), contact her and link to all of her social media.

According to her it didn't take all that long. And I think it looks "clean".

Point is, if she can do it, bass builders and bands can too.

Is there something I'm missing? Or am I fooling myself as to how many people on the planet don't use Facebook?

Edit: TO clarify, this is NOT an anti-Facebook rant. (Or at least it wasn't intended to be.) If you use/enjoy Facebook, that is great. I am not putting you down in any way. I was literally kicking off a discussion with regard to ADDING a website to your e-marketing package....and whether or not it is even worth it to do so any more. And I was/am also curious as to whether or not any of you have data regarding website traffic for your band/company/product. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I am not "against" anybody. I am NOT advocating getting rid of your Facebook page, either personally or for your band.
I dont think it's worth it anymore unless you're a huge band or a band whose target audience isn't into social media. We did have our own website many years ago and it was cool but myspace came around and all our website site traffic shifted to the bands MySpace. Then as Facebook picked up MySpace died down it switched again . These days my band is on Facebook, Instagram, twitter and all kind of stuff. I mainly use Facebook. It's been terrible lately with all the political garbage. So I like how I can unfollow people so their post don't show up on my feed without having to unfriend them where I can no longer send them event invites for shows. Because I personally don't care what anyone's opinion on politics is if they are willing to support my band. I also like the calendar and my band uses Facebook messenger like a 24hr group text but it's nicer than an actual text message because some band members work different hours and I'm on call for the operating room.

Hey thanks. I might be down near you tomorrow. Going to go see some family for early Thanksgiving in Bladen County. (OK, I should clarify. My WIFE'S family. My people ain't no Bladen County people. :D)

My band built our own website. It had a trickle of traffic compared to our FB page. I personally use FB all the time, so I was constantly updating our FB page.

The standalone website, since it was visited less, got less love. It was the guitarists's responsibility to update that.
Someone (not me) let the standalone page expire and a squatter immediately bought the page, replacing our content with some kind of financial scam-type content, looks like. I don't read whatever language it's in, so what do I know?

Our Twitter was a total failure for some reason as well. That was the vocalist and the guitarist.

Bottom line - the only person putting a lot of effort into their social media assignment was me, using primarily FB but also YouTube. And that's where most of our traffic happened.

Here's a story about one experience with Facebook:

My job had sent me out of state for a couple weeks to Indianapolis. Absolutely nothing to do in the middle of winter, tons of snow on the ground, alone in my hotel room (though I did bring my bass and travel amp to keep me sane). So one night I head out to a strip club to have a drink and forget about the world for the night. I'm sitting there minding my own business at a table when this one dancer keeps walking up and talking to me, asking my name, where I'm from etc. I didn't offer her any money so it's obvious she was interested in me and she's getting really friendly, although it's just friendly because I was only there to have a drink and look at pretty girls, no lap dances or anything. Toward the end of the night she offers me her phone number and heads back to the dressing room. I'm about to head back to my hotel when she suddenly returns, angry and confrontational. She says she looked me up on Facebook and found out I had a girlfriend, then demanded to know why I was there. In only an hour this chick had gone from curious stripper to jealous other woman and told me I had wasted her night when she could have been working O_o

PC?
Political?

Yes. Clearly you haven't been following the news on them. No need to hash it out here. Let's just say they control what trends and what doesn't. Many treat Facebook as "real" news. So it "moves the ball" in the direction they want it to move.

You could Google it........oh....wait......never mind that either. :D

So why isn't your profile set to "private" so crazy strippers can't stalk you?
