Almost 100% stuff I don't like that much. Hmmmm....
We go by the general rule that whoever leads the song singing gets to decide what kind of backing the rest do. Our group plays mostly schlocky crap introduced by the primary singer. Mediocrity is ok for him and because it is it's difficult to get the drummer to do anything different. However when songs are introduced and sung by either myself or the keyboard player we tell them what we want and expect.

Getting back to the OP's post, he specifically told you, not once but twice, that he doesn't want answers.
Now YOU quit derailing our silent ponderance (as requested by OP, mind you) of the efficacy of an amateur bassist trying to rearrange perfectly rendered rock and/or smart (b)assists (copyright) giving grammar/vocabulary lessons to said amateur bassist who possibly doesn't even comprehend ninth grade English vocabulary yet worries about musicians who don't push themselves.

A friend of mine is in a "yacht rock" band. Dumbest name for a genre comprised of the (almost) worst music on radio. Every time I think of playing this music I think of where I'm going have to hang my testicles, or just leave them at home.
If I wanted smooth, I'd go to the smooth jazz side. At least it's got some mojo, a little.
I was in a situation like that once, people were talented but inflexible, but they booked a lot, yachta yachta yachta, I quit.
I like lively songs, and those yacht rock slow ballasts never did it for me; the female singer annoyed me... 'fore the gigs, she'd be acting ridiculous, and then aft 'er words about my attitude really bothered me. But at least you can sometimes get a little sail trim. The guy whose band it was, Lee Ward, was a good guy though, and the drummer in that band and I really anchored the whole thing.
In your situation I think yatchta quit.

God, I played so much of that stuff back when it was current; puts me to sleep even as I play.
