Not using pedals anymore: sell or keep?

Hey guys,

I've amassed many pedals over the last few years. Played in a atmo-prog-pop-rock band that was just begging for octave, fuzz, pitch shifting, synthyness, seas of reverb, beds of delay...

However I've parted ways with those guys. I'm currently in a symphonic metal cover band where I only need a ballsy core tone and compression, and putting together a heavy rock/stoner power trio for which I don't foresee very experimental tones either.
Planning to purchase the upcoming Darkglass amp which will take care of the dirt department for those.

I do have a solo project in which I will use some of the creative sounds I've come up with. However for the foreseeable future this is a studio-only thing so I can use plugins, borrow stuff... also I do have a Line 6 Helix that does a ton of things.

All those pedals are worth quite a bit and although I don't really need the money, I don't really need them anymore either. Thinking most of them should probably find a new home but then again, I remember how I used to get inspired by them and maybe I'll want them back sooner than I think.

Have you been in my situation? If you sold most of your effects, did you regret it? If not, how long have they been catching dust on the shelf for?

If you don't need the money, keep them. I'm pretty ruthless with my board in that if a pedal isn't actively being used, I send it on its way, but that is because I don't have the budget or means to keep things around that I'm not using...plus I have a long list of things I want to try. Having said that, I'm hard pressed to think of a single pedal I've sold that I didn't regret and wish I could have back. In fact, I've had at least three different pedals that I've bought and sold 3-4 times.

Sell. To us. That may sound greedy but almost all of my effects have come from you guys being nice enoto pass them along at fair prices.

Keep the rare birds and collectables.

Also your favorite compressor (if you use one) and a good stage tuner. You'll always find use for those two pedals if you're a bassist.

You never know what you'll end up playing down the line, and you may find yourself in a band later on where those pedals might be useful. So unless you need the money for something, I vote keep.

I can't remember the last time I sold OR used an effect. It doesn't stop me from buying them though. Some day I'll plug them all in and turn them all on at once!

I like to goof around with some at home (octave, chorus, light distortion) but rarely have use for anything but DI, compression and EQ at gigs - pedals but not effects. I'm about to get rid of a couple I almost never use. Won't get much for them but it reduces clutter.

The thing with "keep it just in case" is it's a slippery slope. If I go down that path I'll keep every bass, guitar, cymbal, snare drum, tambourine, keyboard and useless accessory ever. That would become a problem (not just money wise but where do I put all that?)

Reasons to sell gear:
1. You DESPERATELY need the cash, and only if the gear sale will get you most of the cash you need. (makes no sense to sell a $100 pedal when you need $1000, you still don't have your money and now you have lost your pedal as well.)
2. You have no place to store it that is safe from the elements and the thieves.
3. You vehemently hate it, hate what it does or represents with a passion.

Otherwise, keep it. Even if you never ever use it again, 80 years from now, when your dead, and your stuff is being sold at an estate sale, think of the joy you will bring some future youngster when they score a pristine ……………...

I've bought and then sold pedals I didn't think I'd ever need again, only to have my priorities shift, and then be looking for that sound again.

You don't need the money and you still play. For this reason, I'd keep the stuff you like, sell the stuff you don't.
If this means keeping all above, so be it, you can always sell at a later date.

After buying the same bass 3 times I've decided that if something doesn't serve a duplicate role I'm keeping it. Fees and shipping eat a lot of profit.

I have a milk crate over flowing with that poopie. I don't want to go through the hassle of taking a million pictures of each one, etc., and I don't want to get low balled by GC. So they sit.
