Not using pedals anymore: sell or keep?

I sold all my pedals that had been collecting dust and used to money to put a new neck and new pickups on my Fender P. I'd say if you haven't used them in a while then sell them and get something you will use. Too many musicians turn into hoarders with music gear. I know it happened to me!

Have you been in my situation? If you sold most of your effects, did you regret it?

Well, i used to buy and collect pedals like crazy, call it addiction or TBFXFF (TalkBassFX-ForumFault, hahaha). Most of the pedals i could not implement in my 2 bands, so i only used them when i was alone in my rehearsal room, i got bored. My G.A.S. is healed now and i sold +/- 20 pedals in the last 2 months. Fun fact is that i sold most pedals for more money than i paid for, kind of win situation even money was not my intention for the sale. Now some weeks later i regret selling my AKAI Unibass and Catalinbread SFT, but no real drama. In my bands in only need 2 different sounds: clean and drity, my pedal "board" looks like this: Polytune(er) + MXR Bass Compressor + Darkglass VMT. Sometimes i add my Tech21 VT Bass D.I. ... ex-pedal-junk is happy now. ;-)

You can't take it with you. Before you retire or have that last heart attack sell everything and use the money for diapers and haircuts or give to a charity. I hate the idea of nice gear going to a landfill or (gasp) fall into the hands of a guitarist. I'm almost kidding about everything I just wrote. Almost.

If you can afford to keep them then don't sell.

You will regret it, I know I have ....and so many times.

I think I've made up my mind. I'll keep some of my favorites - the Filter Twin, You're Doom, one or both compressors and maybe the Polytope.

Some pedals I would likely replace if I still used that kind of effect. Those will likely pop up in the classifieds and I'll start with a clean slate if I ever need/want those sounds again.
The BeatBuddy will be replaced in its own way since I recently acquired some studio equipment to program drums easily in my room, and record the real deal (been drumming for ~15 years) at my new practice space.

Hey guys,

I've amassed many pedals over the last few years. Played in a atmo-prog-pop-rock band that was just begging for octave, fuzz, pitch shifting, synthyness, seas of reverb, beds of delay...

However I've parted ways with those guys. I'm currently in a symphonic metal cover band where I only need a ballsy core tone and compression, and putting together a heavy rock/stoner power trio for which I don't foresee very experimental tones either.
Planning to purchase the upcoming Darkglass amp which will take care of the dirt department for those.

I do have a solo project in which I will use some of the creative sounds I've come up with. However for the foreseeable future this is a studio-only thing so I can use plugins, borrow stuff... also I do have a Line 6 Helix that does a ton of things.

All those pedals are worth quite a bit and although I don't really need the money, I don't really need them anymore either. Thinking most of them should probably find a new home but then again, I remember how I used to get inspired by them and maybe I'll want them back sooner than I think.

Have you been in my situation? If you sold most of your effects, did you regret it? If not, how long have they been catching dust on the shelf for?

Everyone's different, I tend to sell what I'm not using, in over 20 years of playing bass I've only regretting selling two pedals my tech 21 gt2 and my line 6 m5.
