I got older and stopped caring about who was more brutal/heavier/trve cvlt/etc, now I just enjoy bands and if someone else needs the ego hit of saying they suck, that's ok.

You gotta be trolling. There's literally a commonly accepted "Big Four of Thrash" and Metallica is the most widely known and commercially successful of the four.

The Lars issue isn't that he's slower and "boring" relative to drummers in more extreme sub genres of metal. It's that he's arguably the worst drummer (certainly the most mocked) in the very genre his band is credited for defining.

They may once have been thrash, or had elements of thrash, but most people would consider them a K-Pop band. Now, I'm trolling.

The great thing about Metallica in this regard is that you can say they're great or you can say they're absolute garbage--and depending on the album, you'll be right either way.

Rob is a super good guy. I've played some of his basses and his action is pretty high which makes it so crazy he can play with such speed. Dude has strong hands!

Thanks for posting that. I play with high action too and have always felt like some outsider-beginner freak for doing that.

I need my action high because I play with speed - not speed metal - but pretty upbeat tempos, and the high action frees me up and lets me play "enthusiastically" without fret buzz . . I can't stand fret buzz . . . when I get fret buzz it makes me want to bite somebody

I may be in the minority, but I've gotten pretty tired of Metallica over the years. They treated Jason like garbage, even when he was playing in monster shows (Moscow 1991 anyone?) and killing it. Lars acts like a tool so often. Have not really liked much from them since the early 90's. This documentary showed just how terrible they could be to each other. Hoping that has improved. Just find myself skipping to the next song most of the time their music comes up on a playlist.
