In the early 2000's I played with regional touring P&W band. Found ourselves in East Texas for a 1 night gig. BIG church. NEW church. FANCY church. We load into the sanctuary and their MD/MoM is showing off... "huge board... look at the monitors... cables are so neat and cut to length." My drummer notices Roland V-Drums & compliments them on a fine choice, they were very new and cutting edge at the time, asked how they are working out for them "fine, they're really great, sound so good" Then I point out the PLEXIGLASS SHIELD AROUND THE ELECTRONIC DRUMS and ask if they had used them before with acoustics and if that just became part of the scenery. "Oh no, that's brand new, we bought it when we got the drums"

So someone's TITHE went to buying a brand new Drum shield for DRUMS THAT DON'T MAKE NOISE.

Moral of the story... 99% of church gigs are full of this type of idiocy.

Has, I know this type of Christian, the type who preaches that Jesus' wine was grape juice. What a load what he said to you. Go above his head if possible, although personally I wouldn't worship in a church where nonsense like this was even conceived of. If Satan designed the Tbird, p, j, etc. Then he also invented the drums, saxophone, piano, etc.

You had better take stock on what manufactured garbage is being disseminated in that church. It results in this kind of ridiculous crap. And I sir, am Christian.

I still think it's kind of weird when I hear about churches hiring musicians to come in and play for them.

At my church the only people that play on stage are members of the church. Which means they've been consistently attending the church for at least 3 months and gone through the membership class. That and they need to be praying consistently and be good enough at their instrument to actually play the songs...

So far have never seen the worship pastor tell any of the musicians not to bring their own gear. In fact, it's encouraged. And I've never seen them tell anyone to bring a "better" instrument.

God said you must play a Fender.
In the beginning there was a bass.
It was a Fender probably a Precision, but it could have been a Jazz-----nobody knows.
Anyway, it was very old…definitely pre-CBS.
And God looked down upon it and saw that it was good. He saw that it was very good, in fact, and couldn’t be improved upon at all (although men would later try).

Ok so since when are basses ungodly? Why do people think that having nice basses means your a good player. Im a firm believer you dont have to have high end basses to have good tone?

God made the wood and everything else in the bass. He also created the hands that crafted, and the love that went into the instrument. Obviously you felt a calling to that instrument, and it it is the implement for the expression of your love for god.

That is probably the single biggest example of discrimination I've heard in forever. Talk to the pastor, and find yourself a new place of worship. With that type of thinking going on that's Definatly not someplace I would associate myself with. I consider myself and those I associate with better than that. I'm sure there's a chapter and verse to quote him on something like that.

Praise doesn't seem to be the priority with this 'worship leader'. I agree that you should be glad that you didn't waste any more time with the 'supreme judge of Godly basses'. I would have been tempted to ask for the list of God-approved basses. What bass does Jesus play? Whatever one that is in the hands of one of his sons or daughters!!!!!!!

if you are such a good player - WHY does it matter WHAT you play?

if he does not like the Thunderbird OK - but why is he picking on the Squire P or Ibby or the Sammick?

I can see him not wanting the Thunderbird (but just "barely").....

why do you need a "Fender" or MM to play in his band?

move on...if he is that picky - I am sure you would have butted heads with him many times along the way!
