Now I have heard it all...

I auditioned for a praise and worship band last weekend. I was told by the worship leader that i was the the best one to audition. But that my bass was ungodly.I auditioned with my epiphone thunderbird because it is my best bass. The worship leader told me it was "the most ungodly bass" he had even seen and cant have me playing that in front of the everyone. He asked if I had any other basses and I said I have a Ibanez GSR200, Squire p bass and a Samick Greg Bennett (jazz copy).
the pastors says" Im sorry those basses are not acceptable. for being such a good player I thought you would have much better basses than those. Im sorry but I'm going to have to find another bassist.

Ok so since when are basses ungodly? Why do people think that having nice basses means your a good player. Im a firm believer you dont have to have high end basses to have good tone?

The pastor is a moron, and needs to get his head out of his @$$.

I survived private/christian school, so I have read through the bible, and many other religious texts.
Nowhere, in any of them, do I remember mention of the shape of a bass, and what was or was not pleasing in GOD's eyes.

I think you're going to be happy you didn't wind up playing for people like that.

They had no idea what they're talking about and seriously need to rethink their priorities.

Also, if they feel that way, they need to buy a bass for the church and have their bass player(s) play that.

Judge not lest ye be judged....right?

dmusic148 called it, the "leader" needs a tractor and a flashlight.
(In Texas that is a tractor for the cranial pulling and a flashlight to see where the puller is going).

+1 with being thankful you did not land the gig.

i am a worship leader and have been in worship bands for over 20 years. this pastor is badly confused about theology and music. find another church bro and don't let this one ignorant person get you down.

consider yourself blessed that this came out before you spent too much time there.

Did you forget to mention any stickers on your bass like a naked lady with devil horns or Hitler riding a pentagram or does the serial number end in 666?

Seriously, consider yourself lucky to have discovered this kind of ignorance before you invested your time and money in that church.

That is the goofiest thing I've ever heard! Clearly they don't deserve a good bassist. Find another church to contribute to.
Yet another well-meaning but clueless Christian Brother the Lord will have to grab by his ear like my Grandma and shake some sense into. It's not your job, however.
Sorry, too bad!
