Now I have heard it all...

I really hoped the pastor was just not being clear with his words. To a small extent I could see if he wanted a uniform image. It is possible that one could consider an individual standing out from the group as being distracting from the focus..
Like I say, I HOPE this is the case. If it isn't, then there is a severely judgmental pastor leading what could be a group of good people

If you want to go back and try again, you're welcome to borrow my fretless Jazz.

To those who have never been involved in weird church politics, it might seem like a made up story, but really this kind of drama is pretty normal in some churches.

Lucky to find out now before too much time is invested!

Scary! I guess that why like the state separates itself from religion like I separate spirituality from it as well. I don't think God had different denominations and church doctrine in mind following creation. :rollno:

Spirituality doesn't need a church, a pastor or a worship band. JMO

Praise doesn't seem to be the priority with this 'worship leader'. I agree that you should be glad that you didn't waste any more time with the 'supreme judge of Godly basses'. I would have been tempted to ask for the list of God-approved basses. What bass does Jesus play? Whatever one that is in the hands of one of his sons or daughters!!!!!!!

A quilted top Modulus Quantum 5 string the last concert I saw him play. Loves Ampeg gear too. :D

So I'm guessing the Gene Simmons Axe bass is out of the question?

"Bassist Gene Simmons teamed up with Cort to produce this stunning version of his legendary Axe electric bass. This bass is authorized by Gene Simmons, and each Axe is adorned with Gene's signature on the headstock. The axe-shape body has the same style and flare as the demon's own...."

It seems to me that this "worship leader" hasn't a clue about what Godliness is. How unfortunate that he is in a leadership position. Bro, I would shake the dust off of my wicked bass and seek out a fellowship that worships in Spirit and in Truth. Thank God that this person showed his ignorance up front. You were spared some grief. Go make a joyful groove.

I was asked to play at a friend's church. I took a blue flower Fender Tele bass and a matching strat with me. I took them to show one of my friends and asked him if he wanted to play the strat. Later he told me that he was told he didn't need to play that during the service. I played the crap outta the blue flower bass though.

Mmm pastors, thems good carbs...

Okay, less obtuse humour...

Go back with a BC Rich warlock

+1

Or better yet a beast.

+2

That was my immediate thought, bring a Warlock in. Or one of those stupid (IMO) gun-like basses, an AK-47 or the Millennium Falcon bass for his flights of fancy.

I'd get the news out to the congregation, have them vote on it, and let them know what a "french shower" the WL is - seems all he worships is his own misguided opinion.

To all the people talking about a unified image, which one of the other basses the OP suggested wouldn't fit? All of them? BS!

@ StuartV: NO FRETLESS, that micro-tonality is definitely devil spawn and all the ladies in the first row of pews would be showing up the following sunday with distended bellies suffering from immaculate misconceptions.

Where's that evil bass advert that was banned when you want to post it? Oh well, I suppose this will do...

and obviously a Highlander fan
You are not the Robert I met will bouncing in the hick bar in Cottonwood CA are you?

Pm me...I am curious about the name, and if we are related

Nope sir. I am not that mang. I stole this name from a dead poet.

Question for all those who keep saying "Judge not lest you be judged": What exactly does that mean in this particular case?

I auditioned for a praise and worship band last weekend. I was told by the worship leader that i was the the best one to audition. But that my bass was ungodly.I auditioned with my epiphone thunderbird because it is my best bass. The worship leader told me it was "the most ungodly bass" he had even seen and cant have me playing that in front of the everyone. He asked if I had any other basses and I said I have a Ibanez GSR200, Squire p bass and a Samick Greg Bennett (jazz copy).
the pastors says" Im sorry those basses are not acceptable. for being such a good player I thought you would have much better basses than those. Im sorry but I'm going to have to find another bassist.

Ok so since when are basses ungodly? Why do people think that having nice basses means your a good player. Im a firm believer you dont have to have high end basses to have good tone?
(where do I start?)...My friend, don't waste time with churches that don't have solid doctrine. If these people can actually believe that an inanimate object like a bass can be godly or ungodly, they don't have a mature understanding of the Word. I once heard of a pastor who wouldn't allow the saxophone to be played in the church because "the saxophone can never be saved"....uh...yeah, that's cause Jesus died to save HUMANS not inanimate objects. There are examples in both the Old and New testaments of the fact that inanimate objects are not--in and of themselves--godly or ungodly. It is what we do with them that makes them either one or the other.

Just run away from that church as fast as you can, seriously. If the leadership of that church is THAT spiritually immature you have no business in that congregation. What can they teach you other than error?

LMAO. Ungodly thunderbird bass could be taken for compliment in other circumstances. I think you should ask for reaudition and take a friends BC Rich Beast or Widow bass or somesuch bass to it. Then you can watch them run away like satan is in the room. Lol.

Your probably lucky they rejected you though. Cause with that kind of attitude about your basses, the rest of the time with them would probably be quite unpleasant from listening to too much nonsense type preaching imo.
