I only get this joke because I love TCM and old movies. Designing Women is one of my favorites. One of the characters was a boxer who had been hit ne too many times in the head. They referred to him as being "Punchy" .
Logically, the bass that crushes everything would be the heaviest bass, literally the one that weighs the most. Wouldn't that have to be a Peavey T40 rather than a Stingray?

My Stingray (95' Maple/Ash) that is long-gone, was the first bass I owned with treble/mid clarity enough to show me how much more I needed to practice. 'Wrecked' my wittle ego.
Now, YEARS later, I obscure that bad technique with flats/mutes.

They both trashed the stingray in one of their recent podcasts about the 5 most iconic basses of all time. It was their least favorite except for Ian had it above the Hofner. Personally, I love their videos and podcasts. Ignore the click bait titles and their content is great.

As a big old Stingray fan boy, I thoroughly enjoyed this video from Scott and Ian. I can tell Scott isn't really convinced though.
I'd like them to do the L2000 next, that really does crush most things.
While I'll admit that the video did give me something to think about... sorry; still don't want one. Anything I'd want to play on a Stingray, I can play perfectly well on my '78 Fender P-Bass. By the time I managed to get my hands on a Stingray (a right handed one), I already had my left handed P-Bass. And, although I know that they do make lefties? I've never actually seen one - much less got my hands on one. What I really wanted - from the time they were announced - was a 4HH Stingray. Which, AFAIK, they did not make, until the end of 2019, when I snagged my 4HH Stingray Special, straight from the factory. And, while I make no claims about it crushing anything? I will say that I do like it - an awful lot. I hardly ever play it in switch position #1 (bridge p/u only); I don't do that with any of my other 2-p/u basses, either. In my world, the bridge p/u exists only to flavor the neck p/u. But, maybe I'll mess with it a little more seriously, the next time it comes out in rotation for a month of play...

I went through a Stingray phase in the '90s but eventually found it limiting not having a neck pickup. Now they can be had with a neck pickup but my L2000 covered that ground.
Soon after the L2000 I ditched the idea of a bridge pickup when I started using an L1000.

I've been a SUPER loyal P bass player for most of my life.
In the mid 80's I had a pre-Ernie Ball Sting Ray. Shortly after I had a bastard-ized Ray that had a home paint job, brush strokes and all. Someone had cut the headstock in an arrow shape.
I had a Sabre, which is one of my top 3 bass regrets(getting rid of). That was 1992
Fast forward to a month ago.
I saw one of the new Ocean Sparkle Sting Rays used here on TB. The guy had it for a week.
It was an amazing price. I tried to buy it. Seller changed his mind. I was crushed.
I got a steal of a deal on the same bass on Reverb.
I don't remember Sting Rays being so versatile. Just by playing with the tones, you can get a really nice thump,
or slap tone for days. But either way, it's so F'ing punchy. I love that!!!
As I'm nearing 6 decades on this planet, YEARS of playing in bands and working in loud factories, I feel I've lost some of my low end hearing. After 1 gig and 2 band rehearsals, I feel I can hear myself again.
I'm currently looking at a SR5.
My P basses are going to hate me for neglecting them.
