I have had my ear to the ground for a while on all things that Jonathan @JGR has been building. His current attentions are spent building some amazing high powered micro amps, but in the past he has released a few runs of preamps that are full of asskickery. A few weeks ago I was lucky to hear about one of his original 1u rock preamps coming up for sale. I contacted the seller (@eyeballkid ) and we struck a deal.

Simply put this thing is the finest preamp I have ever used or heard. There isnt a bad setting on it, and the voicing Jonathan used is just about perfect. It definitely does rock tones, but with a little knob turning, it covers funk and slap tones, and will do super clean and clear too. It pairs very well with my ProLite, and loves my Dingwall, DuallyT and F212. Truly a monster.

Hey Jullian! Glad you are enjoying the preamp! I'm still very proud of those original 1U preamps - they went through a bit of evolution over the course of a couple of years (yours has been fully updated) and turned out very nice IMO. Mine got torn apart for subsequent prototypes, but I plan on eventually salvaging the faceplate and building myself one.

Hmmm...I might hafta rethink coming over to hear that preamp, Julian.

Seems HIGHLY likely to cause a case of "gotta-have-it-itis"...

My Dingwall has cured my bass-GAS, but I am still HIGHLY susceptible to amp-GAS.

Did you sell or trade anything to get it?

Unfortunately, the pre-amp is pretty much unobtanium. JGR only made a few of those IIRC.

I built five of the original 1U's - indeed, any future preamps will be 2U format.
