NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

i was looking for something that would handle bass AND guitar.

like the Fishman Platinum Pro, for example.

i dislike most of the bass preamps out now, they focus way too much on overdrive/grind tones.

the Summit Audio TD-100 or the Radial Firefly look nice.

bluring the line between preamp and DI - yes.

trying to get a grip on impedance matching, input loads, passive pickups requiring active DI, active instruments requiring passive DI, passive piezos and preamp'd piezos like in my Godin xtsa.

i need to take a class. :)

Maybe take a look at the Drive Maker here:

I have a nice discount for those who have ordered the omnicabsim direct.

The Drive Maker looks great.

If i wasn't saturated with overdrives (ha), i'd grab it.

I did a test with my audient id14.

I A/B'd the OCS outputs with the XLR mic input and the JFET DI of the Audient id14.

The Audient JFET DI gives me the fullness and added harmonics i am looking for in a preamp.

Not looking for an overdrive.

That's why i can't handle the Darkglass stuff.

That's why i was looking at the REDDI or the Radial Firefly.

The JFET DI will do for now. And i can always mix the XLR signal with it.

OCS rocks!

And i am seeing imitators now.

You were the first of its kind i am aware of.

I'm using a ToneHammer, on barely dirty setting AND uber clean. OCSDLX works great or bass and guitar in any situation really - I use the Tone hammer for guitar too, and the OCSDLX really takes it from a pre amp direct in to a "plugged into an amp and close micd" sound. Sure, it's not the exact same, but it sounds great!!

I have received awesome feedback from Darkglass preamps users, also the two notes le bass, and ISP. It should work perfectly with any preamp, specially those with distortion/ overdrive

What about an original sans amp?

FWIW, I run a Darkglass VMTD and a Sansamp VT Bass deluxe as part of a pre/power rig, not a traditional bass rig. The OCS really brings it all together. I have a tone that I have been searching for since the 80's.

I went ahead and sprung for the Ampeg PF20-T.

2 balanced DI outs - 1 preamp (2 tubes) and 1 transformer (4 tubes).

$399 - cheap experiment.

And if it does what i'm thinking, that's an insane buy for a 4 tube direct box as a last in signal chain, always on component for all recording elements - bass, guitar, vocals.

The OCS should pair with this nicely.

If not, i'll have a cool ampeg head for recording bass.
