Just received one and will try it at a gig tomorrow... but in my studio, I’m digging it... it tightens, puchifies and clarifies my 5 string nicely.

Looks like I'll be returning mine. I think this would be more useful for someone who plays out a lot, which I don't. But I found the cab sims to not be all that useful for what Im doing recording-wise and I can't justify it for just a headphone amp as I have a couple other options for that; Mainly my B1Xon and My Mesa 800 headphone out, which sounds a bit better to me anyway. It's a cool little unit though and if I ever needed a cab sim DI for playing live I'd pick another one up in a heartbeat.

I gigged the OCS religiously when I used a modern-sounding cab as my small/lightweight rig -- I needed to "vintage it up", especially when playing vintage genres. Then I traded that rig in on a sealed cab (tighter low end) with a less sizzly tweeter, so I haven't gigged the OCS as much... but I always keep it handy for when I get FOH support (which is rare these days).

Edit: I should add that my favorite gig cab is the sealed/tweeterless Berg NV610. I don't need to vintage that one up, of course. However for hard rock I like a sizzly, aggressive, dirty tone... so on those occasions when I do get FOH support (such as this Saturday) I will send DI from the OCS, though the OCS won't affect the tone going to my stage rig.

yeah I guess its most valuable if you gig it, with ported tweetered cabs. I could see not needing it if I switched to larger sealed cabs. Still, for FOH send, the cab is out of the equation. but the DI on my sonic farm is all I ever want or need. I do love the OCS for my Berg CN and HD cabs

I’ve just been using the GarageBand sims and it sounds good enough for what I do. But I’m not doing anything serious, just messing around recording ideas and short songs.

That sounds pretty righteous. Thick but clearly delineated notes, chunky-n-smooth with just the right amount of gnarly mixed in.

I think I've mentioned before that I'm not much of a pedal guy, but this is compelling. Are you only playing through the two pedals -- the fuzz (Nordstrand makes pedals now?) and the Omni-Cab Sim? (No other pedals, no Monique?)

EDIT: I have got to get my fretless P-bass up and running again. That would be some serious fun with fuzz, I think. I do own a fuzz pedal -- I'll see how close I can get with what I've got before I start to add to it. /ramble

No Monique yet, recorded direct through my pedalboard for this reamp cab shootout I'm doing: I'm sure after Monique it will be even more righteous

Full signal chain: Origin Cali76 CB (50% blend, slow attack/fast release, low ratio, HPF on full) - Nordstrand/Rocket Surgeon Seratone Fuzz (all controls at noon)- Darkglass Alpha·Omega (50% blend, Omega side on full, gain at 9 o clock) - Tech 21 Bass Driver - (blend at 9 clock, all other controls at noon, presence flat) - OmniCabSim

I may very well have been able to get a similar tone through just the Seratone and Omni with more tweaking, but the Bass Driver is a pretty much always on part of my sound, and I happened to already have the AO on when I started messing with the Seratone and liked what it was adding to the mix.

Having the Cali in front definitely keep the transient articulation intact despite having such an intensely saturated signal.

Okay, if I go back and read slowly, I can wrap my Luddite head around that: Compressor thing with HPF --> Fuzz thing --> Darkglass overdrive thing on low gain --> BDDI (tube emulation thing?) --> OmniCab Sim (cab emulator thing). Is that about right? A bit much for me as I am now, but I can follow the logic of the chain, I think, and I can't argue with the result!

Mostly second-hand exposure, where pedals are concerned. I've been obsessing over other parts of my signal chain... when that calms down I might venture into pedals again. I've been going bass --> amp --> cab 99.5% of the time, but I think it might be fun to start messing around with some fuzz again, if nothing else. (And you prompted me to check out a few Queens of the Stone Age tunes.)

Anyway, I'll stop derailing this thread!
