Hey Guys! Haven't had a chance to pop in here in a while but I appreciate the buzz about the Longsword V3 release... took us around 6 months of fine tuning to get it where we wanted but the results are well worth it. Mailing list subscribers already know but they launch Friday. I expect them to sell out very quickly and we've already started on the next batch.
We do a lot of drive pedals so things can get confusing but we use the basic Longsword design in multiple pedals as follows:
- Longsword: 3 band eq (James + active midrange), switchable clipping, boost channel, +/-9V voltage supply, $200
- Dagger (coming in about a month - enclosures are on order and PCBs are done): Just vol/gain/low/high. Keeps things nice and simple. We're thinking of offering different clipping diodes at checkout but that's TBD. $150.
- Claymore (coming ??? - I'm waiting on feedback from beta testers): The big deluxe version, has two mid bands rather than one band with switchable frequency, a bass contour toggle (may change to a presence toggle), and a parallel op amp clean path with switchable optical compression and an internal low pass filter to smooth out the blended tone.
From the standpoint of having sufficient low frequency content, a blend is not mandatory in the Longsword. I know of multiple bassists who use Longswords with no blend and are more than happy - and having seen them live I was getting pummeled with plenty of low end. BUT I know that many folks absolutely require clean lows and the Claymore is catering to that.
As an example of the Longsword V3 on bass, I'll leave you with this. The bassist is my builder and graphic designer, and in this live session he uses the LS as his primary drive with an EGC-neck 70s P Bass, a Traynor TS120B, and a pair of TL606-style cabs.
If you have any questions it's probably faster to email me. John [at] electronicaudioexperiments.com. Thanks y'all!
