NPD: Mooer Radar

I just bought the Radar to use with 3 Sigma Audio acoustic impulses (for use with UB piezo and acoustic guitar piezo). I was unprepared for its EQ versatility, as many of you have mentioned.

It is cheapest/smallest/most easily configurable graphic/parametric EQ + HPF/LPF preamp I’ve seen. Even without the cab sims active, the EQ options are killer! (The sweepable graphic EQ frequencies...) Not sure about tone ‘quality’ with regards to AD/DA and IR sample length but it sounds better than when I’m NOT using it, so at the moment I’m sold.

That's extremely useful. Hopefully the signal isn't too hot on the output side and it can be sent directly to the mixer.

Edit: Pulled up the manual, in one of the signal diagrams it shows guitar>pedalboard>Radar>mixer. Looks like it's designed to work as a pseudo-direct box.
So can I use a d.i box before the Radar or the Radar must be the last of the chain?

Depends: what are you trying to accomplish with that routing?

You can, of course, run the instrument-level Thru from a DI box into the RADAR. But if you're using the DI's XLR-out upstream from the Mooer to feed FOH, what's your goal in using the Mooer (improving your IEM sound, maybe)?

So, you could actually use this as a lpf/hpf + eq? Could I put this first my in, eq my tone and send it to compressor -> dirt -> preamp -> amp? Been looking a HPF to send a better signal to my compressor so it doesn't compress the sub lows which I get when tuning way low.

yes, but the HPF and LPF are a bit limited. The LPF doesn't go below 3 KHz, which is ok to remove the top end but not low enough to be able to do much with it (I frequently set my LPF -separate unit- way below that). The HPF I can't remember its range/slope, but I seem to recall it didn't have a steep slope, so it's got its uses but can't compare to units like the Broughton one.

Convenient unit, it sounds good, but as a dedicated HPF/LPF I would look elsewhere. The HPF function may be just good enough for your purpose, 'though.

Then I tried the bass cab presets. Some of the cabs sound muffled and superbassy, and it lost definition when playing. But when you tweak with the options available you can regulate almost anything. Just by selecting the type of mic and the positioning gets you a lot of changes in the tone. And then the eq helps fine tune what you want to achieve.
One of the things I noticed is there are two options for some of the bass cabs, and one is "miced" with a Yamaha Subbass. That is going to be bassy, with no highs. An odd choice.

I used the Radar for the last three years. The stock bass cab IR’s are decent. I found that the Radar sounds better for bass with the power amp emulations left off, and small amounts of EQ at best to flavor. Nothing too dramatic. Just start with quality IR’s. I was using the Celestion Pulse IR’s instead of stock. It is a good little box.

Now for what it’s worth, I just switched to a Two Notes Torpedo CAB M+. Big difference when you stack IR’s!

Broughton HPF has a 12dB slope - i get better results with 24dB

thinking about this with an SE H24.
