NPD - will it replace my entire board? Possibly...

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I'm going to repeat myself.

I have found the best approach with these units is to dive in with no preconceptions of what each amp and speaker cab should sound like. Try them all in all combinations. You just don't know what combo might be killer.

Definitely. The best way to approach these units is to approach it like you would a new amp & cab. Spend a bit of time and dial in your sound, add effects to taste.

Absolutely true. But what I like to do is find a model that might approximate what I'm looking for. I usually get pretty close and then tweak from there.
Best wishes,
Brent

I bought the bass pack expecting a download, but apparently its a product that ships. I suppose its a CD or dvd or something. We'll see what shows up.

So much to experiment with.

I tend to check out the presets and if there is something I like, I'll try to deconstruct the patch to see what I like and how I'd do it.

So many cool ideas, like setting one foot switch to toggle between to effects.

Is there a HD500x mega thread with shared settings somewhere?

It is a download. It should be associated with your device/account and show up in License Manager.

"It's easy. Start by going to the Line 6 store. Choose the model packs you want, pay for them, and you'll receive a License Key and instructions via email."

Make sure you got the HD bass pack. It is $29. There is a more expensive one, but it is not for the hd500.

Thanks, I’ll check.......getting there, stuck at license manager log in problem of my own making. And email issues.

At least I’ve got my activation code and some other stuff figured out.

I’m going to watch World Cup and try again later. Enough computer stuff. The line 6 stuff tends to go in circles.

I had to manually download several parts of their software, as the be-all package didn't do it all, lol. Took some clicking, but got it done. Everything is on their site, I just had to search for the missing parts it told me to find.

And, it worked. Finally! Two more bass amps and a couple bass cabs to explore. I can’t wait to see what these do with the HiWatt 100 in dual path.

I had a 72 Sound City bass 150 that shared the HiWatt dna. Loved the sound, but the heft was daunting.

I wonder how much all the tube amps in the HD500x and bass pack would weigh, all totaled up?

For those having problems logging in to the Line6 servers with Line6 Monkey & License Manager (as I was!), I opened a Service Ticket with Line6, and was advised to Uninstall both Monkey & License Manager, and then reinstall them.

Tried that last night & it works.

Unfortunately, you can't copy patches between the HD Edit and the HD-X Edit. The HD500x (and HD Pro x) was the updated version of the earlier HD's.

Although the interface is basically the same, the files are different, and you can't drag & drop between the 2 patch editors (I tried that one! :D ).

Yea, my bad. I have had mine since 2010 NAMM and totally forgot you need the converter tool for going from 500/Pro to desktop since X revision came along. Desktop is a little different animal. I am so sad that they did away with the Bean form factor. Really works great for bass. I love making one trip into the venue when a rig is provided.

It is a shame they stopped doing the Desktop, but I suppose that the floor unit could be considered to be that bit more versatile, without needing things like shortboard add-ons etc. Maybe the hardware was getting too big to fit into the good old bean?

I had an extremely productive wrestling match with my new iMac and line 6 software this morning. The HD500x and editing working great on the ten year old iMac, but wouldn’t talk to the new Mac. I thought it was usb speed incompatibility, but what do I know? When it comes to computers not much...

But I got it going, and that’s really cool, because the old Mac is getting creaky, and won’t support a lot of web content. Figured out the line monkey, license manager, updated flash memory, got my new amp models going...(the Ampeg is so cool, and the GK is an amp I’ve had before)

Sound is awesome.

Anyway, here’s the rub... I promise I didn’t push any buttons...

All of the presets are gone. Every patch location says “new tone”. Best of HD? All gone. Bass, Voc, Acoustic? Clean as a whistle. Fx heavy? Nothing.

Is there a magic reset dance? Some kind of “hold this and power up” step? I can’t find anything in the manuals. I, literally, have nothing to lose.

I figured on building my own patches, but if I find a preset I like, I deconstruct it as a basis for my new patch recipe. Plus, the presets are kind of a tutorial on how to set up patches.

One step forward, two steps back.

I could use some help.
