Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

Though I haven't looked closely at the NXT nut, in "guitar world" you can shim the nut to gain distance from the fingerboard near the nut. Don't adjust the truss rod if you can help it. I would simply raise the action. It's quick and simple.

Sorry, I just reread the previous post about the action being way low near bridge. I would raise the action. If you really want to tweak your truss rod, you will need to turn it counter-clockwise to loosen it and give the neck more bow.

I guess I'd raise the action on the bass side of the instrument and see if that fixes it or moves the buzz to the E string. It sounds like the neck might be a tad too straight, which means loosening truss rod would be in order. If it were my bass and I was going to make the truss rod adjustment, I would turn it 1/4 counter-clockwise and play it for a couple days before I did anything else. Good luck.

Has anybody out there ever flown with an NS NXT? Did you use the flight case, light weight plastic case, or some other case? I'm looking at the flight case, but it's really pricey! Has anybody just carried the bass on the plane?

I think it's a pretty big piece, you'd have to go and ask at a check in counter...that's what I'd do. And the stock case totally wouldn't protect the bass in the overhead anyway. Some dunderhead would toss his bag on your NXT and crush the bridge or something like that :-(

I asked one pro who uses the NXT what he travels with and it's the flight case...tough when the case is over 10% of the price of the bass!!!!

10% try 50%!!!! The basically plywood box is $680!!!

Hi, new poster on this board but I think it could help some people here...
I'm actually playing a NXT cello and was looking for the thumb stop piece. I saw the one sold by NS Design, which seems to be similar to the one sold by Gollihur.
I asked by email the manufactor of the NXT series in Czech Republic (NBE Invalid Link Removed) about the compatibility of this wood piece, originally designed for CR series, with my NXT cello and here is their answer:
"thanks for your request. The NS Thumb Stop will fit the NXT4 double bass. The neck profile is same as on CR basses. The pin at the back of the neck can be easily pulled out with combination pliers as the pin is a small and short nail. "
So it seems it could fit...anyone tried it ?

Just ordered the Undercover case for my NXT5 as the strap is just about ready to pop off the OEM one. I asked the guys at Bass Central to send pictures of the strap attachment points first - I had an older Undercover double electric bag about eight years ago, and the strap attachment was done by sewing the straps right into the case, but it was thin and allowed the straps to bunch up and be crappy. The case for the NS upright, though, has an REI style plastic clip & swivel ring for the strap, which will be great.

Just in case anyone cared!

Here is a pic of touring pro Zach Rudulph's gear in boxes... Second from the right, see the oval BASS sticker?

Well I pulled the trigger on the case like Zach Rudulph. Gollihur offer it for around $160.00 plus shipping. After some research, I found it at a ski shop for $120.00 w/no shipping. It's a case that is made for ski/snowboards. It's pretty sturdy. I have to travel to International Bluegrass convention in a little over a week. I feel pretty good about the protection the case offers, and won't freak out if I have to check it.
