    • clockwise - Polar bridge pickup
    • center - both
  3. Balance
    • counterclockwise - optimal pizzicato (plucked, sustained) sound
    • clockwise - optimal arco (bowed and percussive plucked) sound
    • center - both
  4. Treble boost & cut
  5. Bass boost & cut

    • counterclockwise - pizzicato (vertical vibration)

I don't know if it can be modded but it should be easy.

Couple of things:

First-off, last night I replaced my NXT4's stock Contemporary strings with a set of Traditionals. They sound noticeably darker and thumpier, which is to be expected, but boy was I shocked at how much larger the strings were. In particular the E string feels like I could use it to tow a car if need be. I'm liking the feel and tone of these more than the Contemporary ones that were on there, but the sustain is still too long. I'm hoping that as the strings mellow a bit the sustain will also decrease. I've got a couple of open-cell foam options I'll try if the sustain sticks around once the strings have mellowed.

Secondly, is there a video that shows proper playing position and setup for an EUB when using the K&M endpin stand? I've found setup videos for the standard NS tripod and videos for an acoustic upright on an endpin as you would expect, but none specific to my situation. The other videos have definitely been helpful, but being new to the world of upright I'm looking for all of the help I can get to start off on the right foot... errr... hand... :p

Ive got an NXT 4 on the way. Excited because I haven't played upright at all since i sold mine 5 years ago. Im playing blugrass again and got no room for a full size DB bass around here :woot:. Then i dicovered i could snag a used EUB for under a grand! Who knew?

Anyhow, I'm a bit confused about what kind of strings to use on a bass like this. I am going to try a set of these traditionals right away because they're cheap... But will i gain anything in paying the extra $120 or so for a set of dominants or evah's - something that I would actually put on an upright?

Opinions?

That's a CR4.
I like the Traditionals for bluegrass, as well as the Evah Pirazzis.
I don't hear much difference, not dramatic difference for sure. E Traditionals have the slight advantage that they fit exactly, were made for the NS EUBs. you can install any string you want, but experimenting is much more expensive than with BGs.

don't know if this helps, at all.
what I find when I amplify my upright bass (using Realist lifeline pickup, Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 and 1-15 cab), I seem to get plenty of bottom and not enough top.
Thus a low-pass filter would not really help in getting me more top.
Thankfully, the Tone Hammer has a mids frequency and mid boost, which I use to help even out the tone.
I set the frequency to high mids and boost the mids, boost the treble a bit, and then I like the tone.
As this is a EUB thread, I find the piezo on the CR4 gives much more of an even tone, so I need less tweaking on my amp eq.
YMMV greatly. If you can get that in a LPF, bueno.

Checking in since thread bumped. Finally got around to adjusting the mag height on the A. Much more even now. Also, ive thought off and on a out swapping the two blends for a three-way pup switch. I dont do much blending of the pups, mostly either or. Maybe i could add a mid control? :-)
