I ditched that notion. But im looking at this as a possibility ^. Either bass+ cello, or inst. + seat.

Lol. The top tubes of the orig. stands fit here and ive been getting tired of stepping around stand legs. I know this has legs, but one side can be twisted in and make it more like a stright pole attatched to an 'outrigger'. Also liking the idea of putting a round throne on thr other end for seated use. Think i e decide to try it. GC has good price ill post updates here.

I've been playing my NXT 4-string more lately, as back problems have made carrying and playing my acoustic DBs more difficult. I've enjoyed playing the NXT, but I am having problems with a weak G-string sound. It sounds fine at home when I play through an amp, but when I play louder at gigs, the G string sounds wimpy and has a chorus-y sound. It sounds weaker in both pizz and arco settings.

I recently acquired an Empress ParaEQ and have made some attempts to correct the imbalance, but am not having much luck. When I play at home through an amp, I don't notice the weaker G, but when I get to the gig, it is glaringly obvious and I haven't had the time to dial in the ParaEQ to make up for it. I don't play a lot of arco at gigs, but I don't notice the weaker G as much when playing with the bow.

Has anyone else had a problem with a weak-sounding G? I'm using Traditional strings.

I don't claim to be an expert, but that symptom is usually laid to string issues. NXT doesn't use much break angle at either the nut nor the bridge, so my suggestion would be to slightly loosen the string and then press down firmly on both sides of the nut and the bridge, in order to set a definite 'witness point' at the supports, then re-tune to pitch.

If that addresses the issue, you're done. If not, perhaps the string was twisted during installation. I do not know if that's recoverable by restringing - a replacement string may be in your future. IIRC, both BassStringsOnline and Golihur stock and will sell singles.

I have a few questions about my CR-5M, hopefully somebody can share some answers. I gig this bass often and find it to produce very useable sounds but a few small issues are keeping me from being 100% satisfied.

1. What do the three internal trim pots do? Is it volume for each of the three pickups (mag, pizz piezo, arco piezo)? I'd like to be able to reduce the overall output of the bass to match with some of my other instruments to make life easier on doubling gigs.

2. There seems to be a "baked in" bass boost causing low strings to be louder or more present even with the bass control turned down. This is nothing I can't compensate for but it seems a bit of a nuisance. Any suggestions on this?

#1 - The FAQ link posted above is great. That said, the FAQ link doesn't really tell you where the trim pots "should" go. I had to do quite a bit of initial experimentation by playing with the back plate removed to get the balance of magnetic, and the two piezo pickups where I wanted them. For my own personal preference, I keep the internal pots adjusted so that when the exterior tone controls are all at noon, that is my default "electric-upright" tone. I get a bit of a volume boost if I solo only the magnetic pickups, and I get a bit of a volume boost if I solo only the piezo pickups. My piezo pickups are set so that if I have to do some quick pizz/arco changes, I roll the exterior control to about 2:00, and the volume balances nicely for each one.

#2 - I agree about the excessive low end coming from the instrument. My CR4M has a very hot output when I run the volume wide open. I roll off some of the lows on the bass itself, and I also will back off the instrument's overall volume a bit. This has helped to even out the string to string balance. The placement of the magnetic pickups in relation to each string is very important, but the way the bridge is adjusted can really influence the output tone for the piezo pickups. I notice that the pickup that sits under the bridge, not inside of it, really has a sweet spot, and the bridge on my bass can move/shift during transit.
