Oddball Fenders.

Could that be because you werent alive in the 80's?
Probably, haha. I really like the look of Jacksons and Charvel, not so much the pointier 80s fads.
I like it a lot.
Last year, the preamp started making a lot of noise and I gutted it.
The zone pups are now in my fretless SX running passive.
I put a P/J set of USA EMG's in the Zone, and after a while I got tired of having empty holes(where the old preamp controls were), so I added the EMG BQS System. So now it is better than ever.
The neck plays great and is what first attracted me to it. It balances well on the strap and only weighs a hair over 8 lbs,IIRC.
Regarding the 2 P-Lytes in an early response to this thread:
Nice ones. I own 2 P-Lytes and was thinking of upgrading one to a Deluxe model. I got the chance to buy a Deluxe Zone (MIA) instead, so now I'll be moving one of the Lytes to a new home (it's identical to your red flame example).
I've played >1500 gigs with a MIJ tobacco-burst P-Lyte and will be interested to see how the MIA compares. I never thought I needed a more expensive bass (paid $525 for my Lyte in 1990) but something about the Deluxe Zone with bookmatched flame maple and 2 soapbars made me jump at it.

1994 MIA Jazz Bass Plus... This used to have that Kubicki 2-band pre and Fender Lace Sensors, but then I gutted it and put Marcus Mille Jazzes and an Aguilar OBP-1... It was a tad noisey...
...More recently, took the MM J's out, gave the OBP-1 away and made it passive with Nordstrand Split J's and VVT.

Thanks for posting that Performer. A friend of mine had one of those for a short time about 20 years ago, and I couldnt for the life of me remember what the name was. We always called it the "Fred Flintstone Jazz" cuz it looked kinda like a Jazz bass but chisled instead of smooth.
Could I get a shot of the headstock too? I seem to remember it being pretty funky looking as well

So this is actually a mandolin, i would tune it EADG and play bass on it though , i never knew fender use to make one of these i really want one

Nice. I lusted after these for a moment when I was on an Active Jazz Bass quest. I wanted a Deluxe but would have settled for a Plus. There always seemed to be one on the bay when I was looking. Eventually I found a passive JV Squier and the offer was too good to pass up..
This one isn't mine but I'd call the P Elite II an oddball.

Cool I like that Precision Elite II. I have the same bass in black, but with a maple fingerboard and gold hardware.
