Piss-poor attendance and part of an over-saturated market...
To me that screams "be worried about relocation."
I will agree though that the Thrashers are probably in the worse shape relocation wise, and Phoenix may not be far behind.
The Isles have been around since the 72-73 season. They are in a market that is highly populated and has a strong hockey following (unlike Florida,...ATL and PHX). They are one of the few dynasties in the NHL winning four Stanley Cups in a row (79-80 through 82-83).
They have the potential to be a successful and thus a well attended club but they haven't been competitive since the 80's (albeit with some playoff appearances but usually ending in the 1st round). I can't comment on the future but with the right management and if they can pick up a good young franchise goalie there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.
I think they need a new arena but with that said,....I don't see them relocating anytime soon. They are a historic franchise and I would be very surprised if they moved anywhere but across the street.
The way I see it,...the most die hard fans aside,...that area has a lot of teams and if one team begins to slump you can always switch your loyalties to one that is doing well. It's not something I would do, but there are plenty of fair weather fans that might; which could explain lower attendance records. IMO, YMMV etc etc
As far as PHX goes,...I'm a little perplexed,...it seems like that area is a destination for retirees with discretionary income which would be a good market to tap,...but perhaps my assumptions of the snowbird population and what they can do with their income is off base. Either way I've seen games in both PHX and ATL where a good portions on the seats are empty.
If I were a hockey player and not very many people came to see me play,...I'm might not be very motivated to preform at 100%. I know these guys are professionals and ideally they'd have a good work ethic,...but if I got signed to the Yotes or the the Thrashers,...I'd be looking for a way out immediately. These are historically under-preforming teams and I think that damages the talent pool as well as brings down the rest of the NHL.
With that said,...weren't the Yotes originally the Jets? If so why did they move in the first place?

I've been to more than 10 games in Phoenix. The arena is rarely packed with Coyote fans, with the exception of the playoff run last year. When I went to the Pens game this year, I honestly saw more Pens jerseys than Coyote jerseys. Just the other night when Detroit was in town, it looked like Joe Louis Arena from the camera shots of the crowd.
I think everyone was hoping the playoff success from last season would help attendance this season, but not so much. There is a small hard core fan base, but other than that, no one really cares about hockey down there. Such a bummer for guys like you and me without an NHL team in our town who are just begging to be able to go to games.
Yes, the Coyotes were originally the Jets. I wear a Winnipeg Jets hat when I go to Coyote games. Most people look at me confused about the hat, but a few know the history.

I know that feeling. A friend had a "Slapshot" Chiefs jersey and most people asked him how come his football jersey had the wrong colors. I felt for him every time he wore it.
I had an old Whalers hat I wore to a Hurricanes game when I stayed with my grandmother last X-mas break. I got a handful of confused looks too.
That's funny. The Chiefs, and the "Slapshot" movie itself have always been near and dear to me. It was filmed in my home town (Johnstown, PA) in the War Memorial Arena. I went to many a Johnstown Jets game in the '60s in that arena. It was a rough league, for sure. The Jets, the Long Island Ducks (with bad boy John Brophy), the Charlotte Checkers, etc. Ah, memories...
Off to a good start in Philly,...I can't be too upset with Smid hit on (Mike's favorite Flyer) Powe,...he knew he made a mistake immediately after he did and I don't ever recall Smid being a dirty player. Nice to see the Flyers score on the PP but with a full five minutes they could have opened up a bigger lead and it took nearly 4:45 in the Major to get that goal.

+1. The B's are playing like crap tonight. They are seriously playing like they deserve to lose. I don't want them to score. I want them to lose 10-0. I don't want this 3-2 crap where they think they might win. This needs to hurt for them. Maybe they will learn and then they can play like they have a pair.
Oh, and their PP sucks.
The referring is a bit funny (sarcasm) tonight, calling us out on every possible little things and even the ones that shouldn't and not calling the punches in the face we get after the whistle.

I really hate the habs. I've seen the refs tonight miss stuff both ways tonight.
I get the feeling that the Bruins are just going to lay down for the 3rd. They do this every so often. I don't really get the sense that the B's are going to try to hurt the Habs. At least I hope they don't try to hurt anyone.
