Hmm, did Tampa not play their trap against Toronto? What happened there? Laviolette, please take notes. Get it done! Philly has the players to do this. Point made last time, destroy them next time.

Sorry I had to miss that game, not that I watch Tampa games anyhow becauase I hate their style.

Kessel has had games that good this season, his first game this year was a four point game as well. Let's see if Sid can keep it up. Sid has had one good game, Kessel has had 20.

No, I don't listen to that stuff. What I look at is how Kessel has been playing, he has been the best player so far this season, Crosby having one good game doesn't take anything away from that. It is up to Crosby to prove that he is better than Kessel.

Kessel is a great player and all, but Crosby great? You really think Crosby has to prove anything else to show he is a great player?

Yeah, he has to show that he is still a great player. There is no denying that he has been a great player in the past, but is he still? What I am saying is that Kessel is the best player in the league right now and has been proving it by his consistent play over the first 20 games of the year.

I don't know how much you know about the Leafs, but Kessel has been in on 43% of their goals. He is playing on a team of okay players and none of them are of the caliber of the guys surrounding Crosby and he is still putting up Crosby numbers. Jeffery Lupil is tied for second in the league in scoring, because he is playing on a line with Kessel. Jeffery WHO? Kessel is single-handedly carrying the team, something that Crosby has never had to do. At this point in the season, Kessel wins league MVP, the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard.

Does all this mean that Crosby might be a better player than Kessel at the end of the season? It could happen, but at this point, Kessel is the best player in the league, hands down and not even close.

Your first few points are debatable. Your last point is flat out incorrect.

I catch as many Leafs games as I can. I am intrigued by the team and the NHL history around the organization. Right at the top of my bucket list right now is to go to a Leafs game in Toronto. Now that we moved to New Hampshire, I have met a couple from Toronto, so I think I may be one step closer to making it happen.

I like Kessel too and I know the other guy you are talking about. His name is actually Joffrey Lupul (no, I didn't have to look it up to spell it. I remember him as a Flyer). All in all, I try to stay away from the "who is the best player in the league?" discussions in any sport. There are too many variables from team to team, some of which you allude to above. After 20 games, I'm really not ready to speculate on who is the best or who might win any of the awards handed out at the end of the season. What I am doing though, is sitting back and enjoying the great hockey so far this season.

For me....the Oilers are a great story, Philly coming out strong despite the detractors is a great story, watching Boston do a 180 is a great story, Crosby coming back is a great story, Winnipeg getting a team is a great story, Toronto fighting for the top spot in the East is a great story, Minnesota leading the league in GA is a great story....the list goes on. I love it!

Definitely lots of good stories in the league this year. Too bad more people just don't get that hockey is the coolest sport there is.

As for Lupul with Kessel, Lupul was never used right when he was with the Flyers and never got to show what he could do. Never played with the right match. Now he has that in Kessel and they complement each other. Kessel is helped by Lupul almost as much as Lupul is helped by Kessel.

And speaking of stories... Any Sabres fans on here? Bruins at Sabres tonight. Will anyone on the Sabres go after Lucic or someone run Thomas? Supposedly Lindy Ruff had some one on one's with each of his players and gave them tongue lashings after not watching Miller's back.

Plus 1!

With the NBA looking less and less like it will have a season this year, the excitement that the NHL is generating this year (and the homer in me would add last year as well :D) couldn't have come at a better time. It may take some time before it starts to show up in attendance and TV ratings, but I have to believe that the NHL is trending up this up.

I'm a big Sabres fan... my dad got me into them, even though we don't have any affiliation with the Buffalo area. I'd love to see one of them give Lucic a little chin music.
