Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Puck Drop

Dadgumit....that game in Pittsburgh didn't quite turn out as I planned. The Blues, who played last night, outskated the Pens all night. Elliot matched Fleury save for save. I did notice the Blues were crashing the net all night. Not complaining, but it seemed to pay off. Fleury made some great saves, but he was all over the ice tonight.

Nice game from Boston. Good job on the Flyers for squashing the Islanders.

Watched the crazy start to the Flyers/Isles game (already at 1-1)and turned to the Bruins/Sabres game just in time to see the start of the Gaustad/Lucic fight(?). What timing!

Flyers finally win an OT game this season!

Crazy start indeed! Meszaros scores 18 seconds into the game. 19 seconds later the Isles score. Tied 1-1 after 37 seconds. Sheesh!

As I was watching this game I found myself thinking that Danny Briere doesn't seem as effective this season as he has in the past several. Then he ties the game late, then wins it in OT. I sure was glad he proved me wrong!

I'm concerned about Jagr though. At his age, I thought he might be rushing his return if he had a groin injury. I hate to see him out of the lineup for an extended time. Plus, I think he brings out the best in Giroux.

I thought Matt Carle had a rather sloppy game. Some careless passes and giveaways.

I did expect this to be a dangerous game for the Flyers though. I had read that the Isles were very embarrassed by the way they played against the Pens. So I knew they were gonna' come out with their best effort against the Flyers, and they sure did. Flyers were lucky to get out of there with ONE point, let alone two. And Bryzgalov got yanked after giving up 3 goals and not looking very sharp. Bobrovsky looked good though, and slammed the door on the Isles the rest of the way.

+1 to the Briere sentiment. He has seemed a little slower than normal (he's a playoff guy though so I'm not too concerned yet),....but he had a really great game in sealing this OT win for this team.

I thought the D was stale in the 1st period and on that first Okposo goal I couldn't really fault Bryz on,...but I really support the Bobs start of the 2nd period to wake the rest of the team up.

Flyers got outworked in the 1st period and I was like,...here we go again,....but man,...they had a really solid 2nd and 3rd period and really deserved to win that game.

I think the Parentaeu (sp?) hit on Talbot will be looked at. To me it seemed that Parentaeu got shoulder before he got Talbots head,...but it was certainly a violent hit. Hard to say if the league will consider it suspension worthy.

+1 Bobs,....great game in relief of Bryz.

They really need to stop taking stupid penalties though.

I thought the Parenteau hit on Talbot was clean and shouldn't have even been a penalty. Hard hit for sure, but clean IMO. Had Talbot not gotten shaken up on it, I doubt they'd have called it. But who knows anymore?! There doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency lately (although in general, I think the officials do a good job). The game is sooooo fast-moving that I'd hate to be an on-ice official.

From my house it appeared as though Parenteau brought his elbow up high after the initial contact to Talbot's shoulder,....and the result was Talbot's head whacked the glass pretty hard.

Also.

Happy Thanksgiving you puck heads.

Full day of games today, starting at 1PM EST with Bruins versus Red Wings. Hopefully that'll be a fun, fast game!

Caps play the Rangers, which should be a tough challenge. The Caps have won two in a row after their 3-7-1 stretch, but I wouldn't say they've recovered from their slump. Rangers have skidded a bit of late, but they're still playing good hockey.

Yep, I had to work, I'm sorry I missed the Wings game too. I guess the wings win in a shootout. I'm not to worried about this point in the season because I sense this team is a work in progress. The Wings have got some cap space to work with and I expect them to make a big move a deadline with the goal of grooming a replacement for Lidstrom. I've heard rumors they make a run at Sutter.

Wings did win in a shootout.

Flyers win with a 3 goal outburst in the 2nd. Sick puck handling show by Giroux and his 2 points puts him just 1 behind Kessel. Superb goaltending by Bobrovski, big saves when the Flyers needed them. Hartnell playing smart hockey and staying out of the penalty box when Montral players were begging him to drop the gloves and take other stupid penalties.

Rangers rolled up the score on Washington. Get to meet the Flyers tomorrow. Should make for a fun game.

Anyone paying attention to the disaster of a season in Anaheim? I feel bad for Selanne, but dang the whole team looks bad. I can't keep up like I used to with the Ducks, but I sure hope they turn it around.

If there was any justice in the world, Giroux would have got an assist on the Voracek goal. He set the whole thing up. But the two goals were nice.

I missed the first period (which is probably just as well from what I've read!). Lilja is out for 4-6 weeks. Not sure what kind of "virus" Pronger has, but it must be an ***-kicker. van Riemsdyk is out for at least a week or two. Not sure how long Jagr will be out. The injuries are piling up again, but at least the youngsters are playing pretty good hockey. Should be quite a battle tomorrow afternoon with the Rangers. I'm thinking Laviolette will start Bryzgalov since Bobrovsky played (and played well) today.

I've gotta' hand it to the Rangers. They were the better team today. The Flyers couldn't get much going, due mainly to the intense defensive pressure applied by the Rangers. And when the Flyers WERE able to generate the occasional scoring chance, Lundquist shut the door on them.

Bobrovsky played well. I think he was screened and never saw either of the 2 goals that got in for New York. But all in all, the Rangers deserved the win. Now I'm hoping that some of those injured Flyers heal up during the 5-day break.

Pens about to drop the puck in Montreal. Kostitsyn is back tonight, big boost for Montreal. 3-1 Pens last time they played, but we'll see tonight. No HD for the game, so I'm bummed.

I can't wait for the EDM/COL game. Nugent-Hopkins has been on a tear lately.
