And it's worth mentioning that two weeks ago tonight they were dead last in the Eastern Conference and tonight, they are 2nd*. Wednesday we get Buffalo with a chance to get a clean lead in the Division.
* Make that 3rd, now that Florida has won.
Yep, I was going between the Broons and the Pens. Guys I work with are hardcore Broons fans, so I have to keep up with the regional team. Although we have better discussions about Dartmouth games.

And Coburn. And Jagr. The Hurricanes flat-out outplayed them tonight. The Flyers were a step slow all night, and couldn't seem to get anything going.
I really wish Jagr would have signed with the Pens, I would have loved to see him and Sid play together.

Crosby, Malkin, and Neal is going to be fun to watch. We got a few glimpses of it late in Tuesday nights game.

I don't think it's an ignorant statement at all. Pointing out the number of points he has and other stats is jsut that, stats. Read the article to see one-dimensional play:
Boudreau moved Ovechkin to the wall on the power play, and Ovechkin wants to play the point. Keep in mind an ineffective power play in key situations has torpedoed the Capitals in recent postseasons.
"Boudreau and his coaching staff have implored Ovechkin to change his strategy on the attack for more than a year. Go wide instead of cutting to the middle, they've told him. Use teammates instead of squeezing off low-percentage shots. Their words, though, have fallen on deaf ears."
Via El-Brashir: "Boudreau and his staff have begged Ovechkin to be more responsible in the defensive end, yet he still routinely floats in Washington's zone and leaves it prematurely." This has led to a minus-6 thus far, worst on the team. It's never a good sign when your own fans feign amazement that you're back-checking; yet this happens far too often for Ovechkin.
All offense, attack the same way all the time. Float in the defensive zone and wait for the breakaway.
This is my definition of a one-dimensional player. If Boudreau is trying to adjust play and Ovechkin isn't adjusting, this will be interesting to watch play out in Washington. Both the coach and player are very frustrated right now and aren't working well together.
Philadelphia blew up the team in the offseason when things got really sour.
At least Read showed up again! And Rinaldo was hitting everything in an opponent jersey.
My point was that I don't think you can put up those kinds of numbers by being one-dimensional. While he's probably not the most complete player in the game, I think it's pretty far from the truth to say that he can only do one thing well (my definition of being one-dimensional).
This may be true; I honestly don't know. It's true that poor PP performances have been part of the problem in the last two post-seasons, but then again, it wasn't their only problem. And I certainly wouldn't lump the last two post-season collapses on Ovechkin any more than I would the rest of the team.
Anyone who watches Ovechkin knows that he passes far more frequently than he did his first few years. He also takes relatively few of the classic low-percentage shots (i.e. weak backhands, bad angles, etc). Much of this 'point' isn't even accurate.
Yeah, Ovi does this a bit, although he's much improved since Boudreau's big defensive realignment last year after that 0-6-2 stretch. I attend a lot of games, and I don't know anyone who 'feigns amazement when Ovi back-checks'. To me, this is another BS point that's built on a minor niggle in Ovi's game.
Anyway, clearly, you've got an extremely negative view of Ovechkin, and that's fine. I think it's pretty ludicrous to think he's one-dimensional, but you're entitled to that view. I've said my piece, so I'll let any further comments go from here. Next time I decide that there's an overrated Flyer or two, I'll be sure to let you know.

Yeah, when I'm with my other Caps-supporting friends, I don't have many nice things to say about Crosby, but the reality is that he's the best hockey player on the planet. Ovechkin's not Crosby, but he's a pretty good player in his own right, and slump or no slump, I'm glad he's part of the team.
I am wondering whether or not to pick up Malkin in my fantasy league now that Crosby is back. He was only putting up decent numbers before, but I feel like he'll definitely get a boost in points with Crosby's return.
That was a fun one in Nashville tonight. I sure hope Edmonton can keep the team together for a few years. I'd love to see this team with a few years together under their belts.

I saw a headline on NHLN that the Flyers sent Schenn to Adirondack. I thought he was playing well in Philly before he was hurt? I don't think he had big numbers, but was looking good on the ice. Maybe I remember wrong though.

I think they sent him there to work himself back into playing shape. Maybe build up his confidence a bit too since he's coming off yet another injury.
Philly is so tight against the cap, anything they can do to get the cap number down helps, therefore, when someone not in the upper eschelons of the team gets hurt, they are going to do time in Adirondack to save money (and get in playing shape). Plus with the depth on the team, you really need to be in playing shape to help the lineup.
Of course they should have looked at Pronger the one night before he sat out with the flu. That incident at the blueline that led to a goal had to be embarrasing for the guy, almost falling over his skates trying to find the puck in them. I laughed until I saw where the puck was headed. That man is going to have a bad attitude when he comes back. He may tell Snyder to shove the visor too.

The Leafs have Kessel, who is the best player in the league right now. Yes, even better than Sid the Kid, Malkin, Neal, Kane, any of the Staals, ect. He might have only had one point last night, but the Leafs would be a MUCH different team if he wasn't there. I cursed Burke when he made that trade, but I much now concede that I was wrong and Burke was right.
Plus, the Monster is finally playing up to his potential.

I wouldn't go that far. Kessel's on a tear right now, yes, but it was a long time coming & I'd wait to see how long this level of play lasts before conceding.
Right now as in the last week up until Monday night? Sure. I like Kessel. I hope he continues to play well.
