Flyers go 4-0-1 on the season. It was rookie night in Ottawa as 1st year NHLers Sean Coulterier and Harry Zolniercyk score their first NHL goals and fellow Rookie Matt Read adds his second on the year as well as two assists.
Not to be outdone first time Flyer Max Talbot (and former Penguin) gets his first as a Flyer. Simmonds in his first year as a Flyer adds his second goal on the year and "veterans" Giroux and JVR also score.
I hardly consider this Sens team to be a threat,...the Flyers did look a little shaky in the middle part of the game,...but they broke Anderson late on the third.
The PP is showing some signs of cohesion and this team is gaining back what was lacking last year and that was swagger and chemistry.
There is still some work to be done,...but this team is looking pretty solid. With all the naysaying surrounding the offseason moves and as much as I liked those two; with the new additions and these rookies that have seemingly come from nowhere this is what I have to say.
Richards-who?
Carter-who?
(okay to be fair I still like those guys, wish them the best of luck in the future and would not complain at all if they found themselves back in the B&O,...but I think that in order for both of them to mature,...this was the kick in the @$$ they needed.)
That said,...I think they may be trying a little too hard to get Jagr his first goal. He's a setup guy,....but the fact that the Flyers want him to get that monkey off his back shows to me how much respect the guy commands as well as the team first attitude these Flyers have returned to and is a joy to watch. These guys look like they are enjoying themselves out there and I'm really enjoying watching this team gel.
Matt Read,...who the eff and where the eff did this guy come from. He is the real deal. Quickly taking over as my favorite Flyer. The guy is quick,...full of energy, works hard (had an excellent preseason) has a good shot and is poised and composed. He will be successful.
I was super stoked to see Coulturier get his first in the NHL.
I was equally surprised to see Harry Z. get his first as well.
