Official 2015 NHL Playoffs Thread

The SCP is one of the few sporting events that I can watch two non-Boston teams compete.

Ottawa over Montreal - both for the Sens' momentum and the general principal of the enemy of my enemy is my friend
Tampa over Detroit - another goalie that is capable of getting red hot coupled with a team that knows how to put the puck in the net
NYR over the Penguins - edging out the woeful Bruins does not mean that you are any good
NYI over the Caps - this one will go seven and could go either way (as could Ott v Mont and TB v Det); I was beating the Islanders drum late last year and they delivered this year, but the two-way play of Ovechkin has been amazing. This should be a classic

StL over Minn - just going with the favorite here, nothing personal or insightful about that
Nash over Chi - The Preds are for real and they prove it in this series
Win over Anaheim - The more Canadian teams that go deep the better
Van over Calgary - My cousin lives in Van, the city has waited long enough for another deep run by the Canucks

Well, it is personal for me as a Wild fan...but I think you may be right. The Wild have played the Blues pretty well this year, but that was a game at a time. A (potential) 7 game series may be different. I think the Wild have a chance, but the Blues seem to beat us up. I think it'll go longer than 4 games though.

It's hard to say how the Canucks will play in the playoffs. The last time the NHL Saw them in the postseason was in 2013 when they got swept by SJ and was under the crap management of MG. I feel like it's been too long since they made it so they might be a bit rusty. Same can be said for Calgary, though, but even more so.

Canucks in 6, but I'd love for the Canucks to move on to the 2nd round under their own roof. And FCS, someone needs to do a better job at pumping up Rogers Arena. God, it's like a library in there.

Mtl over Ott because Ottawa have been playing hard for last two months or otherwise it would have been bye bye for them with a record of 15-1-1 and they are dead tired now....

Perhaps, but I think the attitude in Ottawa is that there will be plenty of time to rest in June. In addition, I think a lot hinges on Paciaretty's health. Concussions can linger. If Max is near 100%, the Habs probably do sent the Senators home at midnight.

We shall see and it should be fun to watch... I personally think they should rest Max for another week as the others have shown that they can also take part of a team success during the time he was out, but it is the playoffs and who knows what Therrien has in mind... I also just read that the Sens have lost Mark Reeds (assistant coach), he passed away this morning at 55, too young for that.... he was with the team until end of February...

See, that's one of the things that's bothered me all year. We've been good. we've won a ton of games after being down at the end of one or two periods, and until this week, we had only lost a pair of games if we scored first. The stumbles we've had are mostly attributed to injury with Neal, Fisher, Weber, Rinne, etc. all missing time concurrently. No team is the same without its top line or the best goalie in hockey.

Chicago, on the other hand, is rushing an injured player back to compete, and it'll be against the likes of Weber, Volchenkov, Gaustad, etc. I'm not sure how well Kane has healed up, but a weber shot or body check could be the end of their playoff run. Detroit collapsed against our physical play a few years ago. chicago will probably do the same.

Chicago and their OTs....sigh.

Vancouver...needs....to score more. Weber....aiya..and apparently Calgary's first goal was supposed to be a high stick and should not have counted, but too late for that. Hope the Boys in Blue bounce back on Friday for Game 2.

And why did Subban get kicked out of the game for slashing? Was there something else I missed?

Subban sure gave him an axe chop. A game misconduct?

They may have determined it was intent to injure:
  1. 61.4 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by slashing.

So either they wanted to set an early tone in game 1 to prevent it from getting dirty in the series.

But I think they made that call assuming Stone was injured and when he came back they couldn't reverse it. I don't know.
  1. 61.5 Game Misconduct Penalty – Whenever a major penalty is assessed for slashing, a game misconduct penalty must also be imposed.
