Official 2015 NHL Playoffs Thread

That's what they said about The Saux for many decades. One of the feelings I felt when Boston won the World Series back in 2007 (?) was that I was surprised that I lived to see it! "Never say Never', especially in sports...
2004 was the first after the 86 years. The jaw-dropper in that was the Yankees up 3-0 in the series prior before the BoSox took it in 7. Thats where the curse was broken.

But im not a Sox fan or anything...

Great to see Crawford get the shutout in the final game. Sort of like icing on the cake.

It seems likely that salary cap will force the Hawks to lose some high quality players going into next season. Surely they will be hard pressed to remain the powerhouse they've been for the past 7 years.

We shall see . . .

Yeah, but they had cap issues the last two times they won the cup too, and were able to overcome them. They lost some good players (Byfuglien comes to mind right away), but with the mangement team they have in place, they were able to keep the core and add the necessary pieces to continue to contend. Compare that to the 48 years of incompetent management some of us have had to live with, it's like a miracle.

Bill Wirtz owned the BlackHawks for decades and was one of the most despised people in all of sports. He believed the way to make money was to cut expenses to the bone and black out TV coverage so fans would have no choice but to pay to see their team lose at the stadium.

He depended on drafting young talent and then trading them away for cash as soon as they got good enough to demand a high salary.

Then he died and his son Rocky took over. Fans actually booed Bill during his memorial eulogy at the United Center. It was brutal.

Rocky Wirtz is the total opposite to his father. Winning is his top priority and he has a genuine respect for the fans and is dedicated to providing them with a team they can be proud of. When Bill ran the show, the United center was only 1/3 full. Under Rocky, they started to sell out games and it's been more than 7 years since they've had less than a capacity crowd.

Sorry, but Bill Wirtz was a saint and an absolute genius. At least compared to Harold Ballard. Not even in the same league. Not even in the same galaxy. Ballard knew that no matter what he did , Make Believe Gardens would be sold out, and his TV ratings (Hockey Night in Canada) would be through the roof. And he tried his best to proove that wrong. Making coaches show up with bags over their heads (Roger Nielson no less), getting rid of any player who had any value (Dave Keon, Lanny McDonald, the list goes on and on), and openly feuding with any good (great in the case of Sittler and Salming) players. And, sadly, those who have followed Ballard still have not been able to right the ship.

Curious to see the off season for the Leafs, as well as next season. I considered Babcock coming aboard to be the coup de ta. I would like to think between him and Shannahan, something new should happen.

Maybe they should trade some tv ratings to Edmonton for McDavid
For some unkown reason, (must be masochism, nothing else makes sense) the Laffs do have the best TV ratings in the league, BY FAR. But they won't let us trade those. Probably good, they would f*$K that trade up too. And any time they play in a "hostile" rink, the "Go Leafs Go" chant overpowers anything the home team can muster. Yes, even in Snotawa and Montreal.
