Official 2016 NHL playoffs thread

Once again, the Pens out-skated and out-hustled the Sharks. It was only Murray who kept San Jose in the game with only a single goal from Pittsburgh.

In the 3rd period, the Sharks looked demoralized, like they were fighting to the death against an invincible foe. Very little time was spent in the Penguins end of the ice. Even the game tying goal with 4 minutes left didn't seem to snap them out of it. You could see in their faces and body language that they knew they were being outplayed and didn't have any idea what to do about it. They result was a lot of giveaways and a lot of dumping the puck out of their zone to neutral ice.

Still, watching these two goalies play so brilliantly is a real treat.

Still a long uphill climb for the Sharks. They have to win 3 out of the next 4 games against a Pens team that has its star players scoring goals, a hot goalie and home ice advantage - even if SJ manages to tie the series.

The apple is ripe on the Pittsburgh tree. All they have to do is reach out and pluck it and put it in their pocket.

I missed the first half of the period, but the second half looked like the Pens went into 'Prevent' and were just looking forward to getting back into the locker room. Sharks are out-hustling the. pens at this point, goal notwithstanding.

The ice is in much better shape than Game 3.

Yeah, I think only two players were really digging in and skating hard for the last 4 minutes of the 3rd (and some obvious soft playing in the 2nd). It was kind of sad, especially how poorly the D was, with their inability to clear the puck. I understand the idea, but I don't agree with it. But, then Pens are up 3 games to 1, so I obviously don't know what I'm talking about :D

While I realize that all the games have been close, as an impartial observer, Pittsburgh just looks like a better team. Not just because they're up 3-1. Their speed makes my jaw drop at times. The Sharks are a very good team, but the Pens look to be on another level. They've really turned things around since their fairly rough start to the season. Kudos to them. (And this from a Flyers fan...)
