Guitar Center does some completely illogical things when it comes to selling off demos or equipment that, for whatever reason, doesn't show up in their computer database.

I've purchased a TKL brand hardshell case for $5 US, a brand new Fender (MIM) Deluxe Active 5 string Jazz for $220 US a brand new (still in the box) GK 1001RB II for $449.00 US, etc. At that same time, they had a brand new Ampeg B50R for $157 US and a brand new Ampeg B2 combo (with a 15) for $279 US. I didn't buy either one (why, I don't know...probably had something to do with me promising my wife I would buy any gear...). We're very spoiled here in the US if we live near a Guitar Center store.

Back on topic...nice cabinet and that case looks like it will protect it well!

On the bright side, it keeps you from buying too much gear and living in clutter! We have a big problem with cheap goods here in the US. Many, many people around me leave their expensive cars out in the driveway each night because their garages are full of junk.

Don't be too down on living in The Netherlands..."Lydia on Bass" is Dutch!!!

Hehe, Lydia is Dutch. You're right. I didn't expect you to know her, but you do, which is great! I don't like her style (Way too much slapping, I don't like it).

I think she does lessons, but I don't have a clue where.

More Americans know her?

One American solo artist I like is Michael Manring. I think he's kind of weard but the things he does on that bass are amazing. He was at a local bassday over here in the Netherlands, he's cool.

I don't know. I learned of her through TalkBass and have watched her videos on YouTube many times. I agree she slaps a lot, but she's so funky and has a such a beautiful voice!

Michael Manring is a really sweet guy. I've seen him a couple times and had the good fortune to attend back to back seminars of his when he was representing SWR. The things that he can do on the HyperBass are nothing short of amazing!!!

So, i've got an SVT 4 pro , and i was wondering what the best kind of case for that is, i've got one of the SKB cases with the wheels and handle thing (like those stupid "back"packs on wheels) but the fans are on the sides of the head and it seems illogical
any thoughts?

SWEET !!! I have been a Trace Elliot user for over twenty years, and when we recorded our CD, the house amp was an SVT-CL. I wanted to use my Trace, but it was too much work to set it up for the limited time we were there. After I heard the AMPEG SVT-CL tone, I was HOOKED !!! I still love both, but I'm an AMPEG guy NOW !!!:bassist:​

Hey kids. I've got a couple of fairly noobish questions.

First: There is an Ampeg 8x10 for sale pretty cheap (ok, dirt cheap) locally that the owner is claiming is 'killing amps.' I've never been one for the technical side of things, so maybe I'm totally wrong, but I was under the impression that Amps killed cabinets, and the only way for it to reverse is if you are mixing unusable ohms between Amps and Cabs. Are there other things I should be aware of that might actually be wrong with is, or is this guy just using his equipment improperly?

Second: What would you recommend to replace a blown speaker in a newer 8x10?

Buy the cab! Take it to someone who knows what they are talking about/doing. Replace the speaker/s only if needed, and try to get an approximate age of the cab (tell us what company owned Ampeg at the time of it's manufacture, and what the serial number is) ... then you can find out what type of speakers were used by Ampeg during that time and find a replacement. Cheers.

That's interesting... If the cabinet has the original speakers in it, they are 32 ohm speakers all wired in parallel. Some things that could render this cabinet an amp killer would be a failed input jack (or a very, very dirty one) or if one of the wires came off of one of the speaker's wiring terminals and is contacting the opposite terminal. The later would form a dead short across the input jack.

SVT 8x10 cabinets are intermally divided into four subenclosures, so you'd have to remove at least four speakers to check. A telescoping inspection mirror and light source can be your friend here!

If the speakers have been changed...aka if some are 8 ohms for instance, the resulting impedance of the cabinet could be very low...rendering the cabinet a solid-state amp killer. If that's the care, it might be possible to rewire the cabinet, but we'd need to know what the impedance of each driver is.

Sounds like a fun project!!!

+1, Good advice already.

My old 70's Fender Twin Reverb has one of its 2 origanal speakers that's voice coil has completely seized up. I wouldn't think its doing any favors to this combos amp section like this...

I'd start out by popping the grill off that 810 and carefully using my hands open palm to push each speaker cone in and out a 1/2" or so to listen/feel for any signs of a dragging voice coil. (they all should move equally smooth and quiet)
