I found the way to get a slight break-up with a VT Bass is to put my Drive at Noon, everything else I adjust accordingly.
Update on single cab performance! Played an outdoor gig this weekend with my Micro half stack. My Blues band (keys, guitar, drums, chick singer and added sax player) played in the open court yard of an old adobe compound to about 500 people. Big stage, medium sized PA, GREAT crowd. Micro did just fine. I had PA support, but very little through the monitors, and it handled the stage wiyh ease. No farting or unwanted distortion, and ran cool as can be all night long!
I love this set up. Can not wait till I can run 2 cabs. Will easily handle any gig I do!

Quick question does it matter if you have both speaker wires coming out of the head, or daisy chain them; Either way is the same correct?
Also @Hnz where did you get that wheel cart stand. I would love to get that

Finally got my hands on a VT Bass pedal and put it through a quick workout at practice last night. The "SVT" setting on the card that came with it made a huge difference, but it didn't really sound much different at all on the "fliptop" or "fat tube" setting to me. Gonna have to do some experimenting tonight. Gig Friday and I really want to get it sounding good.
Any suggested settings? I was playing my P Bass through it last night, but tonight I'm going to play around with it using the P Bass and a hollowbody Gretsch.

Good question. Maybe daisy chaining them eliminate the cliping problem when there is 2 cabs connected.
Nope. Tested, tested, and retested.
Ampeg knows it's an issue with the soft clip circuit on the head itself. No fix unless you send it back for a repair or replaced with a new one once they get them made.

Well, it's just a piece of 18 mm. plywood, four wheels and some black paint. Easy to make yourself and a lot cheaper than the ones you can buy in stores.
Mind you I don't use it on stage - can be a bit wobbly!
Just got a used vr head for $139.99 and cab for $149.99 sight unseen from GC 3000 miles away. I hope it has no issues if sp I guess I can just return it. Is this a good deal for the combo? They had another cab for the same price but I just needed a bedroom combo
yeah, it is a great deal. I thought I did pretty well when I found a head and two cabs for around $ 700.00 total (3 separate purchases).
It's actually a small-medium gig amp. Not the loudest amp you will ever hear but it hangs very well as long as you're not looking to play in a band where everything has to be louder than everything else.
I play with a very disciplined drummer who can control his volume. Often times we ask him to play louder. Almost all the time. The electric is just in the back the back for rythmn so he's not overpowering. He plays through a little 12"Marshall amp that's mic'd. My wife plays her viola and I'm usually the second loudest next to vocals.
Just don't know how it'll be with a 2x10 sealed cab. If I should di out or mic the speakers.

Mic'ing sounds better. The DI is a little hot and doesn't sound as good. Still sounds great, just not as good as mic'ing it. Just my experience.

In another thread someone talked about using the -15db. I wonder if this would effect the hot signal? I have a gig coming up so am a bit worried. On another note I am trying to think of what would be the best way to have a soundman mic the cab instead of di. Do you think bringing a stand and mic would help to convince or insult them lol
Lastly I do have a sansamp bddi but I am so happy with the tone of the micro-vr I don't know what to do ...
I usually use a 57. Just for preference really because I know how the tonality reacts on a board and can tweak the board before I even turn it on.
JimmyM uses another mic he swears by I can't find where he posted it. You will need to boost the lows and cuts the high mids a bit with the 57 on the board if you run your own sound.
When I do run DI I run the gain on the board almost off and only use the fader really.
Some boards have the minus 20,40, or 50 whatever it is with a TRS cable and that's what Ampeg recommended be done. Get an XLR to TRS cable and cut it on the board.

I did an outdoor gig about a month ago using our PA (Mackie self powered). Though the DI was hitting the clip light pretty hard, there was no distortion through the speakers, and we ran all night with no problems.
This last outdoor gig was a bigger gig, so we had a sound Co. Got no complaints from the sound man about the DI signal, and FOH sounded great!
I will say that between the 2 gigs, I have started using the -15db pad and cranking the drive all the way up. I truelly love the sound of this amp, and can't wait to run it with 2 cabs. COME ON AMPEG, FIX US UP!
