I don't know if you seen what I posted yesterday but they don't even have the paperwork done. Production hasn't even started yet. That was per Ryan (social media manager or whatever).

I would call and have them mod your head, and have them ship you a replacement in the meantime so you have at least something to use.

I honestly don't see these new modded units seeing the light of day for another 60 days. Maybe longer.

I'm not in a huge hurry. The 1 cab is working fine for me, and I can't afford a second cab right now any way. Spent my cab $$ on a Source Audio BEF!

I also agree with micing over DI'ing, but I just don't like DI's and only use them when I'm forced to by shoddy road equipment when they ignore my rider. A 57 or 58 will work fine with it, but could use a DI blend for stronger low content as the 57 has very little below 100hz. I use a Heil PR40 with mine, which has all the low content you could ever need or want.

Don't need (or get) PA support very often, but good info none the less.
Where do you place the mic.

Right in the middle of the top speaker. You get more highs if you mic it right there. With the Heil I have to back off the grill 2-3 inches to keep the low end from being overwhelming, but with most other mics you can put it right up against the grill.

Got mine last year when they were new and love it. Downsized from a 500W Hartke full stack...figured hauling refrigerators around was a game for the young.

Two questions:

1. I understand there's a fix for the head when using 2 cabs. Where's that thread?

2. Anyone plug in an 8-ohm 1x15 as cab#2? Better low end for 5-strings or not worth it?

Confirmed. Talked to Ampeg this week about a new head that wasn't yet available. Their line:

1. They can only replicate the problem performing a slap/funk style.
2. The problem is in the limiter that does not release rapid peak transients quickly enough thereby clipping the tail end of the note.
3. There is no "official" mod yet until their chief engineer signs off on it so there is no order at this time to do anything except on a case basis.
4. Ampeg will NOT notify owners of the fix. You have to keep an eye out for the official news and call them directly to get the upgraded head.

Again, they said they couldn't replicate the problem except during rapid transients in certain playing styles. Is this true or are other style players having the problem too?

OK that is not the answer I got from Scott in support. If this is what they have told you it must be something new.

I have NEVER told anyone to just not buy a head from a company, but if you plan on using two cabs DO NOT BUY THIS HEAD until they change factory production.

If you push it and have a hard attack playing style IT WILL FART OUT from a design defect.

All units are affected.

I am Micro VR free as now (well things are moving between destinations).

i used this micro vr with a bt15 cab with an 8ohm emi kappa pro in a small room last night and it killed. P-bass with labella flats. and again it is ridiculously good into a 4ohm 2-15 cab. love that little head!

I've been able to avoid the farting out by using a pick. It farts out only when I play fingerstyle. Not sure why playing with a pick works, though. I gig with both cabinets all the time and I'm fine as long as I don't drop the pick.
