This must be more common that I realized. I was looking at a modded B-18 just the other day. They installed a baffle cut for a 15" speaker behind the main baffle. It was attached with the mounting bolts for the 18" speaker. Doing it this way makes it easily reversible.

Maybe a 15" loaded cab sounds better than an 18" loaded cab.

Beans, are you sure it actually sold for $700? Because that's almost double what I'd be willing to pay, mint or otherwise, given the fact that I can get a brand new repro loaded with a great driver from Fliptops for $450.

I was just in Buffalo last week. I think I'll be in Rochester this summer, so I'll give them a call and ask them to call me if one comes in. Haven't been to HOG for about seven or eight years... the last time I played that sleepy little town.

Yes just over $700 (http://cgi.ebay.com.my/Ampeg-B-15-E...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9cf231a1). The price is crazy for these things. They are rare so I guess the real thing is going to be somewhat painful to buy.

I haven't been to HOG in years as well but I've bought some cool old stuff from them in the past.

Just last night I installed new latches and weather stripping from fliptops.net, as well as a logo to replace the one that was missing when I bought it, plus new corners, handle, correct knobs and cabinet feet.

I've wired it up again using the latches for the speaker signal, and with the new weather stripping the latches are a nice tight fit. My SB-12 will be living at home other than the occasional outing to the recording studio, so I'm happy to keep using the latches rather than retrofitting a 1/4" jack.

Tonight I'll be fitting a new Jensen C12N, which will complete my mini-restoration program. This is the SB-12 a few pages back that came someone had stuck black tolex all over and fitted side handles. The transformation back to the real thing cosmetically has been pretty easy really.

Yikes! They are rare as hens teeth, but original is original, and when you got mutiple people looking for the same thing, someone is going to pay it.

I also have a B15R/B15E rig, paid 1299 for the used amp back in '04, and about six months later scored the used extension cab for 350.

bah...what sucks is i was dead sober. i forgot batteries for my wireless and had to go to lowe's across the street. however, i did just get over the stomach flu, so i probably shouldn't have been out in the first place.

Looking good! Quite a difference from the first pics. Nice old P-bass, too. Love the grain in the fretboard. '66?
I installed an Emi Beta 12A in mine (original speaker long gone). I started out with my tone controls set like yours are now, but I decided I liked to have a little bit more "plunk" come through, so now I have them both at noon.
The SB-12 also makes a great guitar amp. With the Jensen it should really wail (should you choose to do so, JMHO and so on)!
Anyway, you really cleaned that up in a hurry. Nice job!

Has anyone here modified their B-15 to include a bias trim pot?

The B-15R that I bought a few weeks back seemed a bit soft to my ears, (but I'm a bit obsessive that way) so I had my tech have a look at it. He tested the 6L6 tubes that came with it and told me that they have plenty of life left in them (they're testing at close to 100%). He noticed that they're a bit scorched, so he suggested that he could put in a trim pot on the bias circuit so that he can dial in the bias to match the tubes that came with the amp. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

We're getting together next weekend to do this, so I'll report back on my impression.

didn't have to...mine has a bias trimpot ;)

the only thing i'd caution about doing that mod is that jess oliver said the reason they went to fixed bias was to get an extra 5w out of it. probably doesn't matter in the long run, though...the extra 5w didn't seem to be appreciably louder clean in my 77.
