OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

Settings on my 550 Spyder. This is 'home' settings - live setting puts the Gain and Master at noon, maybe a tad more depending. Mid-Sweep on, Bass Shift & Bright off, Pre-Post (never deal with) and mute (love having a mute switch) off in pic. I run through a pedal chain which further dials my tone ending up with a mid-present fat warm tone. My bass is more mid-treble voiced and I play mostly with a pick/palm-muting. Cuts through with definition but delivers a fat bass foundation. Tone nirvana.

It has a vintage Heathkit badge/plate on it for a couple of reasons. My 1st amp was a Heathkit that my dad & I built in '67, and when I was cleaning the chrome face of the Ashdown, the screen-printed "Spyder 550" came off.

So I gotta ask...what's in the box? Is that a 1x15 or 4x10?

1x15 - it had a square magnet Eminence that sounded good, but this late 60's JBL D140R redefined it. 'R' designated the Rogers Organ Co. which it was made for. They made a D140F for Fender. Just a much richer more expressive tone - it was shocking how much better it sounded after installing it. These JBL's were what The Grateful Dead and other late 60's bands relied on for their sound. I have a Carvin 18" cab and may pop for a JBL for it eventually. It delivered the sound of any bass I play through it like I'd never heard it sound before.

Hey everyone! Anyone currently using the GZR Head of Doom as their primary amp? Can you share any thoughts, feedback or issues you've had? I can't find a good demo for the life of me...Thanks!

I'd also like to know. I wanted to try it at NAMM a couple years ago but the Ashdown booth was a zoo.

Hoping someone can help me, I have an evoiii 500rc and I'm looking for a rack case that fits nicely, at the moment it's in a rockcase, there is about 10" space in the back, its kind of a massive case, researching shallow but might be too short. Any help appreciated

I use a standard Gator rack for my EVO II. It has maybe 5 inches from the back of the head to the edge of the rack. I think a shallow will work too. I like the extra space for my cables and extension cords.

Hi friends! My quest to find an all tube bass head led me to the Little Stubby. First one showed up with preamp issues and the replacement is set to arrive today. I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know what the deal with the side handle is? First one didn't come with one. Looks like some folks have them, and some don't. I've emailed Ashdown as well as Hayden multiple times and haven't had a reply.

2. Anyone have any suggestions for a case? I've been eyeballing the Gator/Amazon Basic diced foam utility cases but not sure if they are the best match.

Thanks,

I have usually gotten a response from Ashdown within a week.

Not me friend. Sent three emails about the amp issues, as well as the side handle. No reply. Hence me reaching out to the kind folks here

Sorry man. Sometimes it takes a bit longer for them to respond if there is a trade show or holiday, or if the staff is doing tour support.

I am sure you already have it, but this is the page I used to make first contact: Ashdown Contact Us

Good luck getting your amp sorted.

I figured after three separate attempts to two different addresses it was time to give up. I asked the seller to check with his rep on the side handle as well but haven't heard back about it either. Not a great first impression of the brand, but for the few minutes the amp was working it sure sounded good :)

Anyone still using a MiBass 112 cab? I can buy one cheaply to act as an extension to my MAG 300-115.
Used to have an early ABM500 with 410, but that was just to heavy, and I downgraded/downsized after moving to a smaller city and starting a family. I gig much less, and rarely use an amp when I do. When I do though, could use a bit more volume and brightness, I guess that 112 would help with that. I could also get a small class D head and use it with the cab as another option. Am I wrong?

I just got an ABM 400w Neo C210 combo. It’s different than what online show and has the handle on the top instead of the side ones. It just says “Manufactured by: Ashdown Engineering” Nothing about England. Anyone know if these are UK made with the handle on top?

I tried MiBass 112 a couple of yrs back...have to say i wasn't that impressed. Sounded too week to my ears as soon as you upped the volume.
I've also tried their VS112 annd VS212 (now discontinued) which were nice sounding cabs at low volume but became too "boxy" in tone as soon as you raised the volume.
I went with a Barefaced in the end ...made in the UK, light as anything and it was as if suddenly someone had lifted a wet blanket off my tone (prev using ABM210 and ABM410 cabs with an ABM500 head). Much flatter response that really brings out the top end. They do a great 1x12 too. Haven't looked back since...mind you they are not cheap!
