They are really great amps. All of the tone and extremely versatile. not to mention you can actually carry one pretty easily as opposed to my old school ABM 900 haha
Sorry for the crappy pic.
I pmayed on Sunday with my RM500 and two cabs (backline). An Eden 410 and a modified Supro 1x15 cab. It sounded amazing I have to say. And the RM sounds so good...View attachment 4089955

My main amp these days is an Ampeg PF500 with a Fender Rumble 410 cab. There's a decently priced ABM EVO III 500 with a MAG 410 cab for sale, and I'm considering going for it.

I like the Ampeg, but it sounds a little sterile to me. Not sure if that's down to the Class D thing, or something else, or if I just don't know how to tweak my tone (which is definitely possible). Looking for a nice, semi-grindy rock tone.

Weight is obviously a bit of a factor, but I used to be a drummer, so I'm used to hauling heavy equipment in and out of my car. Shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

Decisions, decisions.

If anyone has *any* input here, feel free to share. I've heard mixed things about the MAG cabs, but if it comes to it I could always try to pair the ABM with my Rumble cab and maybe look for an ABM cab later.

I've only used the MAG cabs once and they were decent. Nothing spectacular, but they sound nice. The ABM head is the best head I've ever used. If you could get one, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the input. I find myself looking into preamp pedals and other tone shapers in order to beef up the tone of my amp, but then I just think... if the amp is the problem, then get another amp.

If I were you I would start off by pairing the ABM head with the Rumble cabinet and then look for 2 x ABM 210 or 2 x ABM 115 cabinets.

Yeah, my hunch says that might be the best option. The upside here is that if I get this rig, I can put them both side by side and mix&match heads and cabs to really see what sounds good and what I can achieve. Who knows, maybe the ABM will sound great with both cabs at the same time (which will also give me the full 500 watts, as a bonus).

I do like the idea of two 2x10 ABM cabs though. Easier to carry, 4ohm load (meaning I get the full wattage of the amp) and a more flexible setup.
