OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

This my old ABM Klystrom from 1998
Still going strong

My first bass amp is my Ashdown Studio 8, SDOTD for $99.99. It sounded good and very warm toned. Not a lot of volume and low end and the speaker broke up way too soon, even for a 30 watt 8" combo. I did my research for an appropriate speaker (FaitalPRO 8FE200, 4Ω), partially lined the cab and cut the blind tube to the needed length. Now it sounds awesome. I love it. (For more detail read Ashdown Studio 8 Review Plus.)

I got the one size and power up "F" brand "R40" model. Sounds different, but very good. A different tone and I really like it too, but the Studio 8 is still my favorite and most often played. This one too got modded from the directions I found here on TB. I had the speaker (Dayton Audio PA255-8) and matting, I just had to get the port tubes. It now has a deep Blues/Rock sort of tone and is clearer and louder than the stock setup. More than enough to work with the few jam sessions I've participated.

I loved the sound of my little Ashdown and I've been looking for something bigger in Ashdown and low enough priced for my measly budget. I finally found something that fit my budget, a AAA Five 15. I had been looking at all four versions of the Five Fifteen/15s (carpeted cube, tolex cube, Mini Stack and AAA) and chose the AAA for the Effects Loop and the DI. The reason for the Effects Loop isn't so much for effects, but if I can get another, I can daisy chain them, master and slave amps, with all controlled from the master. That should be more than sufficient for anything I might play for the next few years. As for right now, if the sensitivity is high enough, this amp should cover what I'm doing right now, with the tone I want.

Not mine, but found on Ashdown's legacy page.

If my Studio 8 mildly shakes things and the R40 vibrates them, this should rattle things in my house!

Looking forward to the N(U)AD!

I have gigged with a AAA Vintage12 like 3 years ago. Then, it was in a box until this month, when I took it again to gigs (as my monitor actually). It is really heavy, but it has such a great tone.

Did you ever solve this issue?

Hello Ashdown members - I was hoping y’all might have some ideas on what I could try before having to pack up my amp to send off to the tech. I bought a Little Bastard on Reverb that worked before it was shipping, but now doesn’t work. It powers up, I can see the tubes glow, but no sound. Any ideas on something I could check? I live in the middle of nowhere, so my only option really is to send it somewhere.

If I do have to send it somewhere, any suggestions? I live in Mississippi. Thanks!!

This version of the Five 15 is 17kg/37.5lbs, which is only like 3.5lbs more than the current 15" combos out there now, Rumble 200, RB-115 & Studio 15, all at 34lbs. The previous version of the Five 15 was 26kg/57.3lbs. The weight shouldn't be an issue.

I've read they do have that awesome Ashdown sound. The very few videos seem to support this assumption. I'm assuming the speaker is sensitive enough to do these occasional jam sessions, which I believe it will be.

A lot of assuming is being done on this purchase, as there is so little information available on these amps. With the little information I did find and Ashdown's reputation, I think I should be good.

I must say that it is not only the weight. This combo is as heavy as my Markbass Traveler 210, but the Markbass is easier to carry around. The handle in the combo is not very comfortable.

However, you will love the sound. I still have this combo when I am asked to just take a little amp to the gig. Is a great piece of equipment.
