I took a trip to Nashville this week, and came home with my first Ibanez and my first 5.
A Korean ATK 305. Out the pawn shop door at $140 with a hard case. Sounds great but the jack has a little static at times, but should be an easy fix.
Appears to have been in the pawn shop since 2008. This must not be a "Nashville Bass"

Yes, this is it. The review will have to wait a few days as I also got a new amp (GK Fusion 550) and want to work on the settings with what I know to sound good first.

I think my 305 is as anxious as me to try the new rig, just got the GK Backline 600 off CL and the GK 410MBE should arrive via UPS tomorrow... 240 more watts, 3 more speakers and only 10-19 more pounds than my old Rumble 60.

Anybody else run their ATK's through GK rigs? What settings do you like? I'm really curious to see how well the B string hangs in there. I'm thinking I'd like to get the mb500/800 when I have more money.

Maybe I’m not particularly sophisticated, but I’ve done many combinations of bass/rigs, and never had a problem finding a tone that works, so it’s hard for me to relate.

That said… and this probably won’t be very helpful, but...

I gigged my ATK305 with an MB500 and 212MBE for a while (20/30 gigs?) and it sounded great. The B string was fine, especially for a 34”, which is all I play.

As for settings, there are too many variables that could make your situation completely different from mine, but knowing me, I probably set all the EQs on the amp at noon…

and on the ATK, I remember the switch forward to the “attack” mode, the mid all the way up, the high probably way down, and the low to taste.

I am sure I had the cab tweeter off.

Unfortunately at the time (no longer a problem) the guitard/stage volume was so high I beat that poor cab into a rattle trap, then switched rigs a few times… now I’m gigging completely different everything.

I did want to mention the MBE cabs, and I can only speak of the 212… great sound, light-weight, but no cross bracing, no damping material…

If you’re going to push that sucker hard, and I mean reeeeally hard, maybe add some cross-bracing, and damping while you’re at it, and you’ll have a killer cab.

As for the MB500, although it’s been sitting in back somewhere for quite a while now, it’s a righteous head, and I can’t say anything bad about it.

^Thanks, I was actually going to get the 212 because I figured it'd be all I needed but then I ended up with a better deal getting the 410, Thanks for the heads up, I usually don't push real hard or play in bands with members who do so I should be good for awhile but have looked at some of the mods for the mbe cabs on here.

The only reason I mentioned it is that it's my first 5 and I haven't really played a lot of rigs with a 5, just 4's but totally relate where you can get just about anything to work with the right settings. I've ran similar settings on the ATK that you mentioned, very nice aggressive tone.

I play my atk 300 and 305 through a GK 500mb and 800rb and love the tone I get. On the mb I normally turn all the knobs to noon with a small cut in bass, maybe to 11 oclock, to make it more like the 800rb. I like tight bass, even on the five string. Also, I turn the contour off and sometimes use channel B if I want a little grit or growl. I played this rig like this for my rock band and in a the musical hairspray with only slight changes on the bass and some flatwounds. They really sound good through GK equipment.

I'm excited, might have an audition for a band where the bass is kinda nu-metal/rock/dub so I'm going to be tinkering with the sound to complement that. Probably playing the ATK in attack or traditional(bassier), with the GK in channel b maybe for some grit. Where do you put the mix for master and boost for your ATK? I would like to get that down before even messing with the b channel.
