I've got one of these coming to me soon:

Invalid Link Removed

How heavy are these things? I've heard that the older ones are on the heavy side, but these are listed as being made of "light" ash. I've got a nice wide padded leather strap, but I'm still curious.

i just got mine from MF it had a small finish crack but i was going to keep it tell i felt the weight , it was a awkward weight ajd heavy. It hurt my shoulder , i am returning mine , i just cant enjoy playing at this weight.

Well i edited my post because i am not sure if its 12.5 i did the bathroom scale test so its gotta be between 12-14 pounds i cant tell for sure but it weighed 17 pounds during shipping and the box cant weigh that much.

But i have owned a peavey t40 that was 11 pounds and i was fine, but i cant live with this bass i LOVE the tone but i play 2 hour gigs and i cant shoulder this more then thirty minutes. I am 20 and in good shape never had back injuries and usually play a Precision and wanted something different but not at this level of uncomfort.


Its still a great bass, just not for me weight wise.

According to an article I downloaded awhile ago, it lists this bass at 10.6lbs. It's a great article, has six pages and a spec page - if you'd like it, PM me your email address, and I'll send it to you. It's from a bass gear issue printed in August of 2008.

I just got mine the other day after reading this thread and deciding to strike while the getting was good. I'm glad I did, this is one terrific bass! Mine arrived set up dead on which is a first for me (a sticker on the back says "Setup by BO.Lee", well he did a darn good job). It weighs the average 9-10 on the infamous bathroom scale which is ok by me. I still can't believe they are just about giving these things away!

My ATK750QM should be coming in tomorrow, and I'm a bit nervous. I've heard really good things about ATK basses but there have also been some reports of shoddy workmanship, bad fretwork, finish cracks, etc.

These originally sold for $700 - shouldn't it be a well made bass with good QC? What should I be expecting?

Don't expect anything. Wait until you get the bass, look it over, and if you want, grab a pencil and paper, and write down anything that seems off to you. Play it for at least a half-hour or more, and take more notes if you feel something isn't right.

If the bass has obvious flaws in the finish etc., then you have the option to contact the seller for a refund. If fit and finish are fine, and all you have is a setup issue for action and intonation, have that done and you're good to go.

Setup is a personal thing anyway, and you may find that it can be tweaked for your playing style.

There's no reason to obsess at this point. Stay calm and wait for a great bass to come in the mail!

I can honestly say that my ATK is the best finished/constructed bass I've bought ie NO flaws.
What that says about my other basses, I hesitate to say.
I too have heard strories of bad ones, but, just for a change, I got a good one, and for the price it's ridiculously well-made
