Well, the pre/mother board needs to be replaced in mine. Pretty sure i'll be getting the Glockenklang, like in the "ultimate atk" thread. I would sell it and try and find another used, but i doubt i would get much. Perhaps as parts maybe a lil more..
I just dont know if its worth it because of the wood chip at one of the screw holes (like broke off) and in the battery compartment one of the lil metal things the screws go into is gone.. Of course it doesnt effect playability... and if i do end up finding another ATK 5er, i could put the pre and pickup in that...
hmm...
I do love this bass too much haha. I'll end up asking for the pickup for christmas, and getting part of the money toward it instead...
blah. Sorry im typing for myself here. Rant over :3

So, any advice on pre amps, some reviews on what pre's have worked well, etc?

That damage is fixable. If you know a competent woodworker, he should be able to help with the wood chip, or maybe post some pics here.

The thing the screw goes into is just a threaded insert and most hardware stores sell them for under a buck.

Ok, i figured i could work something up somehow.
Has anyone else noticed the lack of used atks on here, ebay and craigslist? there used to be a good few available. Is everyone holding on to them since they been discontinued?
The best one ive found recently was a fretless on ebay the other day

Well, Ive had my 5er back a few days now. Was giving it new strings (the DR neons, really nice strings, even if the neon glow isnt your thing) and setting it up, and remembered why i has had pretty high action.
There's a very prominent buzz on the first few frets of the D and G strings mainly.
Im beginning to fall out of love with her :( The necks bowed a bit forward, and the action isnt super low now anyway. Idk what to do. Any tips on fixing this?

Sounds like you may have some high frets.

Take it in for a pro set-up, so you're not just putting out fires.

Im planning on it. Ive been doing setups for quite a while and its just frustrating i cant fix this. I swear this bass hates me lol

Has an ATK305 for a few years until recently - came with a few high frets. Luthier sorted them out. Nice low action with no buzz (unless I wanted it from digginng in) was the result.

No amount of truss tweaking will sort out high frets.

Any manufactured bass could probably benefit from a fret level and dressing.

I would be confident in the neck before dropping bread on the pre.

Some people have just converted them to passive and done away with the preamp altogether. SwamieRob comes to mind.

Yeah, i was definitely planning on getting the neck looked at before spending the big bucks on a pre. The only alternative is sell it for whatever i can get, and get a used one. Im just not sure its worth the money, when i could get another one. But with my luck if I bought a replacement it would have worse problems.
Or commit a major sin and save up for something else. haha

Edit:
Well. I plugged in my Highway 1 P cause the ATK was being fussy. TBH i feel like I have loved the sounds from the atk, but the fact it has given me so many issues has just made me feel like its not needed, and the cost of getting the pre is too much. Im going to try and find another one soon cause i Love the bass, but my particular one has had enough of me and some lucky persons gonna get a simple project for pretty cheap. I dont want to give her up but she's just trying to leave.. oh well..

welcome to the club man. I'm not doling out numbers anymore so I dont know what we are up to, but you're in. with both of my nineties atks, it starts off with a 4 or 5 ('94, '95) and that about how far ive gotten. Im thinkng the next one or two digits is the month. then the rest are the number that was made that month.

I would like to know how the 100 really compares to the the 300. Im interested in how the pup sounds passive. let me know!

ok that sounds good. well i am the proud owner of two 95 atks!!
the passive one has an interesting tone i would probably equate it to a pbass type tone. i really like it. its growly and i really want to throw some flat wounds on it and see if i can get that old Motown sound out of it too. i wouldn't be surprised if i could!

you can. even on my active, I run the eq all flat and put some flats on it (I primarily use rounds though)it still has the inherent punch/growl to it, but if you rest your thumb on the edge of the pickguard and play near the neck you can get really good thump tones out of it. I LOVE these basses. I have 3 now.
