would I still be leaving whatever leads arent being used out and about, just shrink wrapped, or do they need to be soldered somewhere?

I was able to get the coils working but couldn't wire them in any logical manner since you don't know what leads are for what... although you might be able to assume that the red lead is the hot lead for the coil that's always on. From there... who knows cause you have 2 coils and three leads left.

haha sounds like a fun little crapshoot. I mean the differences are pretty subtle, so maybe Ill just pick one and like it, because I'm too lazy to change it

bumo for the ATKers. I strung my new acquisition up with GHS tapewounds. surprisingly I love them. a lot. so I think they'll be staying on there. the original preamp has so much low to hi mids in it, and the strings sound wonderful with it. My main player has Hi Beams with a seymour duncan preamp in it, which none of the eq works. has a tighter more focused sound to it. glassy highs, very transparent lows, and pretty flat mids. two basses, two very different tones. love it.

ATK300's are being cleared out at MF.com for 299.99. They aren't as heavy as the quilted or Koa 750's, and the black finish works well with the chrome bridge, IMO. Very solid instrument is this price range.

The 305's are going for $249 now and the 300's for $199 at MF. M123 offers a price match guarantee but call to get it.

I'm going to be a new member of the ATK club next week! Got me a trifade burst 305 on its way. :hyper: :bassist:

It will be interesting to compare to my USA G&L L-2500.

The ATK305 and the Bongo 5 are the last two basses I have real GAS for. Now only if the Bongo 5 could come down to $250.

They are actually listed on MF for $199.00 and can be bought lower using price matching. Some have reported getting them as low as $130 which is (of course) a SCREAMING bargain! However, there are rumors that there were only a limited quantity of them and only the red sparkle ones are still available (as of today)

For $130 I'd buy the damn thing and paint it any color i want! ;)

I was really tempted to pull the trigger on a couple and just store them for the future but I have all the basses I can handle at this point. Forget about my wife, I would divorce myself if I were somehow capable of justifying yet another bass purchase.

Ha, I ordered the Trifade Burst 305, as well, after seeing the thread on it in the TB "Hot Deals" room (one of the places I check it every morning).

Tracking says it’ll be here Tuesday.

I didn’t bother with the price-match thing as I had to get ready for work, and I didn’t want to see them get sold out while I was waiting for some response. $250 was cool with me.

Been gigging a Fender MIM Jazz V and the Squier version, never played any other fiver, and I just wanted to try something different.

I’ll be back for a number with a pic in a few days.

:)

Sorry about the pics bud, but here's your shiny brand-new club number!

well you arent getting mine! haha I love the color and those are just very minor ocd type qualms. when it comes down to it, its a very nice bass and I will be playing it regardless. I understand what you mean about the volute. its just strange for me to get used to it after not having it there for so long. and the edge of the fretboard being rounded is a nice touch the more I play it, again, just different.

I also forgot to mention that in my main player, the output jack is starting to get iffy at times, and occasionally the whole preamp starts to sound like the battery is going. Its not the battery, because a few well placed love taps fixes it. so that one may be a platform for a new preamp and jack. The seymour duncan preamp in there is alright, although nothing fancy. the eq points are very usable, but the gain of the eq seems half as much as the standard preamp. also there is a pull switch on the volume knob which activated a preset bass and mid combination that are controlled with little trim pots on the inside. I currently have the mid trim down and the bass up a little so when the knob is pulled out it scoops up the mids, acting as a nice preset for slapping.

I know how you feel i really perfer the old ATK's necks, by alot.

I already sent it back to Musicians friend, the tone didn't have the growl of the stingray, and I was and am looking more for a Stingray tone but at the same time I also want the tone of a Ric but it was really good for playing The Offspring stuff but then I would play Blink-182 songs and I would struggle to get a tone that was similar to Mark's tone on their earlier albums and I also loved the color. The thing is, is that I called every place around my area and in my state and nobody had one in stock so I couldn't try it out before buying one.

Thats really weird because mark used pretty much obnly stingrays on there stuff up and somewhat during enema of the state, thus I would think it would be easy to get his tones of the old era.

Hello guys! I should be recieving my ATK 305 in the next week. I searched through the threads about string choices.
I want to string through the body. So D'addario Super Long Nickels will work?
I'll be tuning this to ADGCF so I want to make sure I buy the right singles! Thanks for any insight
I'll post some pics when she arrives :)
