Hello guys! I should be recieving my ATK 305 in the next week. I searched through the threads about string choices.
I want to string through the body. So D'addario Super Long Nickels will work?
I'll be tuning this to ADGCF so I want to make sure I buy the right singles! Thanks for any insight

Ive used Dean Markley SR2000s, ernie balls, and now Ive settled on DR hi beams. none of them were "longscale" or anything special. going through the body adds about an inch of length, thats it. so you should be able to use any normal string. maybe the ones Ive used arent "normal" but theyve all worked for through body and at the bridge too. although for the low B I definitely do through body so the thicker part of the wrap doesnt start wrapping on the tuner.

I can attest to using GHS, Dunlop & Ernie Ball strings through-body with no issues in string length whatsoever.

ATK got delivered about 5:20 today. I had to run out, but I had a chance to play with it just a bit and took a couple pics. I’ll play with it more tomorrow, but I doubt I’ll take it to tomorrow’s gig.

The only fiver I’m used to is my Jazz V, so I figured this deal on the ATK would be an opportunity to try something different.

This ATK weighs in at 10-¾ pounds, my jazz weighs 10 pounds, and I don’t have a problem with the Jazz so that might not be too bad.

The string spacing is narrower on the ATK, which I was concerned about but that didn’t seem to be a problem. The back of the neck on the Jazz is flatter, though, and the ATK is deeper, which did feel kind of awkward when playing. I hope I can get used to that.

I never cared for the look of an ATK, but I like the triburst finish, the bridge doesn’t bother me anymore, but I may end up taking the picguard off. I do feel confident enough in this being a keeper that I'll take a number. Thanks so much.

also I forgot to mention, you should try DR's new line of drop tuning strings. Ive read some people having trouble with the B breaking. but going through body and only tuning up to A and not B should hopefully cure that problem. just take it nice and slow. they are supposed to be higher tension, so that you can tune lower and have about the same tension as you would with a normal tuning. I cant attest to that in actuality, but I love DR's stuff.

Count me in! I just received mine today for $169.00 Thick neck but workable. I'm a MIA P and MIA J guy but I am pretty impressed by the sounds I can pull from it. Pretty playable for an import.

It was a steal at $169

Thanks for the string help guys.
I was looking at the DDT's and D'addario singles. If I get the singles the balance across the strings looks way better, and cheaper I may have to try both. I can only afford one choice at this point. So if I cant figure out if Regular or Super Long on the D'ads it will be the DDT's for now. But at least with the DDT's I wont have to do any nut filing for sure. Still have to do a bit of research maybe Low Riders with a DDT .135? So many choices.
I'm getting excited I havent played a 5 in a long time. Or an active...

count me in too! black sparkle 5'er should arrive tomorrow! this marks my first 5 string and my first ibby, and it'll be my only active bass at the moment (had a stingray 4 for years... loved it, but hated the color). pretty dang excited, can i get a number too?

re: strings, d'addario regular long scale strings do NOT work in 34" string-thru body basses. most other brands are long enough, but daddarios require you to get the super long scale version. would it really kill them to add an inch or two before the taper starts? shame, since they're my go-to string, generally speaking.

Pics to add to post 605... w/out the pickguard.

Just looking at it in the natural light, the only noticeable screw holes are the ones in the black areas, that filled with black silicone (or something) would probably disappear.

The others don’t read, but they could probably be filled with something orange-ish and completely disappear.

However, standard scale D'addario strings are too short for through-body stringing... Personal experience

Remember guys, I don't know if everyone's into the whole "club" thing so I'm not going to assign you a number unless you ask for one or I at least get the hint that you want one. Sorry, I'm kinda dense like that.

One other thing. I'm heading for the great-white-north of Wisconsin in about an hour. I'll try to check for new number requests before I take off. After that, new numbers probably won't get assigned until Sunday night/Monday morning. Internet access is pretty sketchy where I'm going.

It's really great to see all these new members coming in! To all those celebrating, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
