Of course we're all in limbo as to what 2011 holds for the ATK series...but from the little bit of diggin' around I've been doing, my guess is that we might be seeing the 400 series making a comeback....
That means a 5 string model with the single coil at the neck position
Give me that in the mint green color that's offered in the 310 series and I'll be dancin' like this l'il fellow

That would be great! I hope they chose to do a 3-way switch with a blend knob instead of the 5 way, this time(if they do another 400/750 flavor).

Amen to that confusion man! I think I have the pup figured out but Im also 50% sure I am wrong....its really confusing, I THINK its just a normal doublebucker when you wire it up to the jack, but when that switch gets in there then the magic middle coil appears....man.
I'd try to figure out how to wire it series and parallel...series is where it's at for me on my Basscultures pickup

Hey Guys, just to prove I'm one-a-ya's here's a pic of me with one of my ATK's at a gig about a week ago. And now, a question:
I'm looking at joining a band (hard rock/metal) that writes a lot in B. Now I own an ATK305, but I always like to have a backup. have any of you ever tried to tune an ATK300 down to B? If so, what strings were you using? 4-string set or 5-string set and pitching out the .45? I'd also like to avoid filing the nut since I rather not make a permanent change to one of my ATK's for a potentially temporary band.
Any info you guys can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I think you need 4-wire output in order to wire a dual-coil pickup for series/parallel switching, as you'd need to be able to access both ends of the coils.
Given that the OEM ATK pickup has three coils and is already one wire short, I suspect you're out of luck. Depending on how it's wired, it's already either in series or parallel- changing that would require internal surgery.
I'd take it to a store, and ask to check a B string for fit. I say this, because the B string slot was a little tight on my ATK305. Makes me suspect that a little filing would definitely be in order on an ATK300...
If you slacken off the E string, you can actually pull it out of the way, and see how well the fat part of the B string fits into the slot. Don't push very hard when you're checking- if the slot is too tight, you could break the end off the nut.

Probably my error. I haven't actually traced or metered my ATK to check, but I thought Justin mentioned 3 plus ground in previous posts...
Hey Steve, I cant remember If I did say 3+ground, but when I actually got the pickup out and about to copper shield all the cavities, it is indeed 4 wires (red, green, white, black) plus a copper braided ground. hope that clears it up!

My band plays in dropped B and standard C# and I use 55-110 gauge strings. The 110 is a little bit floppy in B but through an amp it sounds great, no rattle whatsoever. I just needed to raise the action a bit, that's all.
I used to use 5-string sets minus the 45 but the gauge was way too thick for me. So I went back to 4 string sets and never looked back.
Oh and I forgot to mention that I string through the bridge, so if you string through the body the tension may be tighter.

I am impressed how quiet my ATK 300 is when in the attack mode. It's noisy in the bright position though.
Since I like the sound in attack mode, I doubt I will do my usual shielding job. Had another bassist try it Saturday night and was blown away when I told him it was a $130 bass. This guy was a pro player as well. I played it for 2 sets then switched to my MIA P-bass. The p-bass preamp failed and caused noise. Ironic, eh?
