Justin...it was just luck of the draw finding my 300 with the birds-eye neck ... When I saw it, I had to have it.
Thand...it has waaayy more than my 750, too!
Pictures really don't do it justice.
My black 300 has a flame figure on the fretboard but I can't really capture it in a pic...it's not as vivid as the birds-eye
Thanks for posting your findings, Steve ... good stuff ...

Hey Guys, just checking in to let everyone know that I'll be heading up to the northwoods from today on till Jan. 2nd. During this time I won't be able to assign new member numbers. I will go back and look for number requests upon my return. Have a safe and happy holiday season everyone, see ya in 2011!

Hey Z, I can take care of that while you're gone :)
Have a Merry Christmas man, and a Happy New Year! see you on the other side!

also an update. I got my old natural ATK back to original spec. I like. end of story :)

Finished my pickup investigations. The stock character switch settings are: neck position with low pass filter, neck position wide open, and neck/bridge parallel humbucker.

The dummy coil is engaged in both single-coil neck settings, which is why they are so quiet.

For modders, there's a noiseless Jazz bass bridge pickup setting hiding in there, as well.

However, there's some bad news, too: conventional series humbucking operation isn't possible. Please don't shoot the messenger...

Technical details are on the other thread:

I took my ATK to a local tech to have the frets looked at. He agreed there were a few high frets, so I will eventually have him spot level some frets. He also gave me a tip on how to "fix" the control cavity cover so it fits in the route. Mostly just some simple sanding.

Otherwise, he seemed quite impressed with the deal I got on this bass, and he recognized the Music Man vibe as well. I'm looking forward to getting this bass in gigging shape within the next month or two.

I also got a used combo last Friday. It's a Roland D-Bass 115 combo, and I must say the ATK sounds quite good through it. I also played a StingRay 5 HS through it, and the ATK held its own, although I think some new non-coated strings will improve the tone a bit.

I bought my ATK700 from Zounds back in '05 (I think). At the time, the price was just a bit over $500. No regrets, as this is a very fine example. Can I get a number?
